The brand new Unmapped Brewery has found its place on the map

Another brewery has found its place on Minnesota’s brewery map.

Unmapped Brewery Co. signed a lease for a 9,000-square-foot facility in Minnetonka, with the hope of opening the taproom by May 2017, a news release says.

Big day today- we signed our lease! Specific location details will be announced soon…stay tuned!

The taproom

Minnetonka High School graduate Megan Park and her husband JD Park will be opening a  brewhouse and taproom in the Kraemer’s True Value store space – the hardware store has been in business for 106 years, JD Park told BringMeTheNews.

Unmapped hopes to celebrate adventure, nature and quality beer in its taproom, aiming to make the brewery a community gathering place that’s family- and dog-friendly, the news release said. Check out the preliminary exterior designs of the brewery here.

Unmapped also hopes to include some history in the taproom. JD Park says John Kraemer, the owner of the hardware store, is retiring, but will stay on at the brewery as a minority partner. He has a lot of “interesting items and photos” that Unmapped hopes to incorporate into a “mini museum” about the area.

The beers

Unmapped Brewing Co. is focusing on Belgian-style beers because they’re “incredibly approachable, especially for new craft beer drinkers,” JD Park says, and it’s also the Parks’ favorite beer.

But they’ll also have a few American-style ales on tap. That way they’ll always have something for people, no matter their beer taste.

The brewery’s website says they’re “taking the trail less traveled” by offering more year-round beers than many other breweries.

There will be seven year-round brews – four Belgian and three “stateside” beers. They include:

  • Topographic Wit: a light and refreshing Belgian-style Witbier.
  • MinneSaison: a honey-colored Franco-Belgian Farmhouse Ale that’s brewed with honey.
  • Disorientation: a golden-colored Belgian-style tripel.
  • Quadruplication: a quadrupel Belgian dark strong ale.
  • Middle of Anywhere: a classic copper-colored pale ale.
  • No Trace: a hop-forward IPA.
  • Late Watch: a ruby-red Barleywine.

They’ll also have a rotating series of small-batch beers that’ll only be available in the taproom.

“We are just going to have fun and brew any style – or non-style – that we’d like,” JD Park says.

If these beers sound like something you’d want to drink a lot, you can become a founding owner of the brewery and get free beer for life. You just have to make an investment of at least $5,000. (Click here for more information on how to invest.)

Unmapped currently has 30 founding owners, but JD Park says for a limited time they’ll still accept new investors.

Minnesota Business reported that Unmapped had a goal of raising $750,000 through this founding owner effort (they’re doing it through something that’s called a Small Corporate Offering Registration or SCOR – and they’re the second Minnesota brewery ever to do this).
