After missing out on some home state talent, the Minnesota Gophers men’s basketball team was looking for some good news. And they got some on Wednesday.
Three-star combo guard recruit Jamir Harris of New Jersey announced on Twitter that he was choosing to play basketball for the University of Minnesota.
Harris marks the second commitment for Richard Pitino’s 2017 recruiting class.
“It’s a comfortable place for me,” Harris told Evan Daniels of Scout.com. “I felt at home on the visit. The family atmosphere there was unbelievable. … I’m happy with my decision and I’m looking forward to getting down there and starting this new journey.”
Harris had taken an unofficial visit to Minnesota over the summer, and he’ll head to the U of M for his official visit next weekend.
The Daily Gopher notes he’ll bring the Gophers some needed outside shooting. Through 21 games while playing in the Nike EYBL, Harris was 57 of 148 (38.5 percent) from the 3-point line. He averaged 11.4 points a game.
