Report: It’s worst case for Peterson, his season might be over

Bad news for the Vikings with ESPN’s Josina Anderson reporting that Adrian Peterson needs surgery on his right knee and he’ll likely miss 3-4 months, maybe longer.

Anderson says she spoke with Peterson, who informed her that his torn meniscus will be surgically repaired on Thursday. The injury is a “bucket handle tear” which Anderson says could keep Peterson out up to six months.

Peterson suffered a torn meniscus late in the third quarter in Minnesota’s 17-14 victory over the Green Bay Packers Sunday night.

With Peterson out the Vikings will turn to the versatile Jerick McKinnon and power running back Matt Asiata. But the Vikings have also signed ex-Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman. He rushed for more than 800 yards with the Broncos last season. McKinnon will start this Sunday against Carolina.
