Twins second baseman Brian Dozier launched his 42nd homer of the season to lead off the first game of today’s doubleheader against the Tigers.
Not only did it extend his hitting streak to 24 games, it was home run No. 40 while playing second base, breaking the all-time American League record previously held by former New York Yankees slugger, Alfonso Soriano. Dozier’s other 2 homers were in games where he was the designated hitter.
Davey Johnson and Rogers Hornsby hold the MLB record with 42. Johnson did it in 1973 and Hornsby in 1922.
