Thieves smash cases, steal valuables in raid on Edina jewelry store

Police are searching for the men who carried out a smash-and-grab raid at a Twin Cities jewelry store in broad daylight Wednesday.

The R.F. Moeller store at 50th and France in Edina was hit at 10:25 a.m., when three black men entered the store, smashed display cases and “stole an undetermined amount of jewelry and valuables,” according to an Edina police news release.

WCCO reports the thieves used hammers to smash the display cases.

A $3,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the culprits’ arrest and conviction, Edina PD confirmed.

Surveillance cameras in the store captured stills of the suspects, who, judging by the manner of their getaway, put considerable thought into the planning.

They drove away in a stolen blue minivan to nearby Bruce Avenue, where they abandoned the vehicle and attempted – unsuccessfully – to light the van on fire with gasoline, police said.

Police believe they were met by a fourth person who picked them up in a black, four-door sedan as they escaped the area.

Anyone with information should call Edina PD at 952-826-1600.
