Here are the shows to catch around the Twin Cities this week.

The Damned

Monday, Nov. 1 at First Avenue

Now 50 years deep, the Damned are calling it a damn day. Their Final Damnation Tour is the last tour for one of the earliest British punk bands. The last hurrah for David Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies, Paul Gray, and Monty Oxymoron has them playing songs from across their five-decade career, which is a boon because “Damned Damned Damned” is still a fantastic debut and one of the great punk albums of the ’70s.

Down the road, Trippie Redd, who claims to be one of the inventors of rage rap, is headlining a gig at The Fillmore.

The Jonas Brothers are also back in town, returning to the road following their 2023 reunion.

Tuesday, Nov. 3 at The Armory

The South African country singer is back at the Armory this week. The mask-clad songwriter’s fourth studio LP, “Mule,” is out and showcases his bold voice and knack for penning sad songs that still sound triumphant. The record features a local connection — and you know we love a local connection — with Semisonic’s Dan Wilson co-writing “Too Little, Too Late,” one of the album’s singles. Abbie Callahan opens.

Over at The Cedar Cultural Center, Jeremiah Chiu and Josh Johnson will coheadline a tour of innovative musicians who aren’t always the ones standing in the spotlight. When solo, Chiu is a versatile electronic musician, also known for his duo with Marta Sofia Honer and co-leading SML. His “Edge Conditions” release may find its way onto some best of the year lists in December. Johnson, a saxophonist and producer, is also part of SML and has collaborated with an impressive array of musicians, including Flea.

Meanwhile, the Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela are touring behind “OurHome,” their first album in three years. They’ll play the Fitzgerald Theater that same night.

Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Fine Line

Give L7 their due. They’re one of the great punk bands of the late 80s and early ‘90s, and their sophomore release, 1990’s “Smell the Magic,” absolutely belongs on lists of the greatest punk records ever recorded on its sonic power alone. But they weren’t just brash punk with a bit of a metal edge; they had something to say about sexism and a world increasingly corrupted.  The band has dubbed this outing as “the last hurrah.” Unfortunately, the tour gained something of a tribute element after it was announced. Bassist Jennifer Finsch died in July from brain cancer. 

Sleep

Wednesday, Nov. 4 at First Avenue

It’s been a long wait for new music from the glacial doom metal outfit. Guitarist Matt Pike left the group in 2018, following the release of “The Sciences,” and no new record arrived until the stoner metal trio released “Hempispheres” earlier this year.

It’s their first record without Pike, but it lives up to their reputation for bulldozing, entrancing metal. While all of their albums are arguably best heard as a whole — this isn’t a band looking for a hit single — “Hempispheres” diverges from classics like “Dopesmoker” and “Holy Mountain” in that it doesn’t have songs that beg to be pulled out and taken on their own. From the album opening “Have Spacesuit Will Travel” on, it’s almost conceptual in scope with big atmospheres and brazen walls of sound.

Die Spitz

Friday, Nov. 6 at First Avenue

Time to throw yourself to the sword. After playing the Minnesota Yacht Club festival this summer, Die Spitz is bringing its chaos to First Avenue. The Austin-based quartet put out their debut full-length, “Something to Consume,” last year on Jack White’s Third Man Records, a follow-up to a pair of blistering and well-received EPs. Their brand of chaos is infectious for its thoughtfully deployed restraint and political edge.

Bill Callahan

Friday, Nov. 6 at The Cedar Cultural Center

Callahan, who used to perform under the moniker Smog, is an institution. The storytelling lyricist and his deep voice almost instantly sold out this gig at The Cedar, announced not long after the release of his latest record, “My Days of 58,” his first album since 2022. That might not seem like that wild of a gap between records, but, for Callahan, it’s almost an eternity. The prolific songwriter has 20 full-length albums between Smog and solo releases since 1990. He’s taken his time recording over the last decade, and this is another LP that was worth the wait.

Katseye

Saturday, Nov. 7 at Target Center

The Los Angeles-forged K-pop-style group can’t stay away from Minnesota. They’ve exploded in popularity since having their formation chronicled in a Netflix series (“Pop Star Academy: Katseye”), releasing breakthrough singles, grabbing Grammy nominations, and being the subject of a new documentary (“Katseye: Wild Hearts”). This will be their Twin Cities arena debut after creating a mob scene at the Mall of America in 2024 and headlining The Armory in 2025.

Jack White

Sunday, Nov. 8 at The Armory

Jack White is back, riding the wave of his recently released “Frozen Charlotte,” his seventh solo record, which feels a lot like a throwback to the more compact sound of the White Stripes. The Armory gig follows recent Twin Cities appearances at smaller venues — First Avenue and then the Palace Theatre — where he’s brought a stellar band for short, breakneck sets that don’t leave space for any fluff.

In a letter to the district obtained by KSTP, the Minnesota Department of Education said it has “serious concerns” over Fridley Public Schools’ debt and its lack of “any significant indication of effort” to address it. 

According to the letter dated Oct. 20, Fridley Public Schools has so far failed to submit a budget audit for the 2025 fiscal year, meaning the state does not have a clear picture of the district’s debt. 

The letter does state that the district is taking out additional loans to make debt payments, resulting in a “debt spiral.”

Fridley Public Schools is one of 11 districts and charter schools on MDE’s list of those in statutory operation debt, meaning it is overspending by at least 2.5%. In Fridley’s case, the district reportedly spent more than 16% of what it had in fiscal year 2025. 

Fridley is also the only district on the list to have not submitted an audit report. 

According to the letter from MDE, the state will move forward with its own audit of Fridley Public Schools to gain an understanding of how much debt the district has. 

However, Fridley Public Schools will still be required to identify a firm for its own audit and submit budget documents to the state by Nov. 6, the letter states.

At around 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Duluth police were called to a reported stabbing in the 2700 block of West 3rd Street. At the scene, officers found a 36-year-old man and a 33-year-old man suffering from apparent stab wounds.

Both were taken to local hospitals in stable condition, according to the Duluth Police Department.

A 31-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were later arrested in connection with the stabbing. They were booked into the St. Louis County Jail on pending charges of first-degree aggravated robbery and second-degree assault. 

The victims and the suspects knew each other, police said.

“Just some hamstring tightness, and he was able to return, late in the football game that took place,” head coach Kevin O’Connell said.

It sounds like it occurred sometime during the Vikings’ penultimate offensive possession, during which Murray had a nine-yard run and went 4 for 4 for 70 passing yards and a go-ahead touchdown to T.J. Hockenson. The Vikings had one possession after that, which resulted in a three-and-out after the Lions had taken a 19-15 lead.

“It didn’t really come up until — we only got one more drive after it happened, so it didn’t really hamper anything today, no,” Murray said of his hamstring injury.

Asked if he expects it to be any sort of issue moving forward, Murray gave a somewhat uncertain answer.

“Nah, I mean we’ll go back and look at it and obviously do what we need to do,” he said.

Maybe it’ll turn out to be nothing. But hamstrings are often tricky. If the tightness lingers for Murray or proves to be something more significant upon further evaluation, the door could potentially be open for Carson Wentz to start the Vikings’ next game, a Monday Night Football showdown against the Bills on Nov. 9 in Minneapolis.

There are certainly some Vikings fans who would argue that Wentz should be the starter against Buffalo, regardless of Murray’s health. It’s been a very bumpy start to the season for Murray and the Vikings’ offense as a collective. After showing signs of progress late in Week 4 against the Dolphins and then in Week 5 in New Orleans, Murray has completed 31 of 53 passes (58.5 percent) for 360 yards in two games since the team’s bye week.

On Sunday in Detroit, Murray threw two touchdown passes and finished as the Vikings’ leading rusher. However, he missed open receivers on several occasions, including at least three to Justin Jefferson. One of those ended in an interception. Murray was sacked three times on a day where only two of the Vikings’ ten possessions ended with points. It was messy enough that there were calls on social media for Murray’s benching over the course of the game.

Wentz stepped in when Murray was injured early in Week 1 and went 12/19 for 133 yards and 3 touchdown passes in a comeback win over the Packers. The following week, he started and was 11/20 for 143 yards in a rainy 9-3 win in Chicago.

Wentz previously went 2-3 in five games as the Vikings’ starter in 2025. He threw 6 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in those games, but he did at least get the ball to Justin Jefferson, who averaged 95 yards in those five contests. Wentz is the only Vikings quarterback in the last two seasons who has been able to support Jefferson’s typical receiving numbers.

Keep an eye on Murray’s hamstring this week. It could be nothing — or it could open the door to a quarterback change for the 6-1 Vikings.

Jefferson is clearly frustrated. He matched a season high with nine targets on Sunday, but caught only five of them for 33 yards and an impressive one-yard touchdown. Kyler Murray sailed the ball too high for Jefferson on at least three different occasions.

It was another tough day for the Vikings’ offense as a whole; they managed only 266 yards and 15 points against a defense that ranks near the bottom of the league and lost several key players to injury over the course of the afternoon.

After the Lions took the lead late in the fourth quarter, the Vikings had an opportunity to respond and proceeded to go three-and-out. Following their punt, the FOX broadcast showed Jefferson expressing some understandable frustration on the sideline. The Vikings’ offense didn’t see the ball again, as the Lions were able to run out the clock.

“We gotta find ways to get him the ball,” said Murray, who completed fewer than 60 percent of his passes (17/29). “Obviously they’re going to double him, and they did today. That’s just part of it. This is my first year with him. Everybody that’s been here understands how he gets treated and how he gets played. He is who he is, and he has every right to feel the way he feels when he doesn’t get the ball.”

Jefferson has played in six games this season (although he left one on the opening drive due to an injury). He has 28 catches for 335 yards and four touchdowns. That includes games of 33, 44, 32, and 55 yards. He hasn’t crossed 100 yards once. Dating back to last season, he has one 100-yard game in his last 18 outings. Those are not the numbers you expect to see from Justin Jefferson.

His production level was a storyline even as the Vikings started 6-0. Jefferson, as he so often does, handled it well when he spoke to the media this past week. But after a loss, it’s harder to excuse the Vikings’ inability to consistently get their best player the ball.

“We had some opportunities for him,” head coach Kevin O’Connell said. “There were some chances there. We missed a couple of ’em high, if I remember right. And then just the way the flow of the game went, we only had 50 plays. We’ll continue to find ways to get him the football. Division game, these guys want to win, I don’t fault the frustration or the competitiveness in any way, shape, or form.”

Murray said Jefferson hasn’t directly expressed frustration to him, but it’s something he understands.

“I think it’s understood,” Murray said. “He’s an All-Pro, hopefully soon-to-be Hall of Fame type of guy when he’s done. That’s just what it is. You expect him to be frustrated when he doesn’t get the ball in games like this, in crunch time. That’s understandable.”

Trailing 19-15 with 4:35 left in the fourth quarter, the Vikings had an opportunity to play against a Detroit defense that was down four key starters: safety Brian Branch, linebackers D.J. Wonnum and Jack Campbell and star cornerback DJ Reed.

The result: short pass, short run, incomplete deep ball, punt.

The FOX broadcast showed a replay of Justin Jefferson frustrated on the sideline, hollering something as Kyler Murray walked nearby. It’s unclear what Jefferson was saying or if he was directing it at Murray or anyone in particular, but it’s an indication that he’s frustrated with Minnesota’s inefficient, inconsistent offense.

Jefferson had five catches for 33 yards, inlcuding a juggling touchdown catch.

Murray threw for two touchdowns and an interception, but his performance wasn’t strong enough to convince Vikings fans that he’s a better option than Carson Wentz or someone outside of the organization (oh, hey there, Kirk Cousins) going forward.

Failing to pick up a first down against a Detroit defense that lost nearly half of its starters to injuries is a deafening indictment of his ability to lead the Vikings in big moments.

Airmail 2: Midway through the second quarter, Murray had Jefferson open on the sideline for a first down, but his 3rd-and-8 pass was way over Jefferson’s head.

Murray taking bad sacks

Murray, known as one of the most elusive QBs in the league, sure does take some odd sacks. Like, standing in the pocket way too long and not moving when a rusher is coming his way. As former Gophers wide receiver Ron Johnson wrote on X/Twitter, “THROW THE BALL AWAY OR RUN!!!”

What was Kevin O’Connell thinking?

Trailing 12-7 early in the fourth quarter, the Vikings failed to convert on 4th-and-4 inside the Detroit 30-yard line. Why didn’t they kick the field goal? Will Reichard is money from basically anywhere on the field, and a field goal would’ve made it a two-point game.

With the best defense in the league and Reichard, the Vikings could’ve kicked another field goal and led by a point. Why head coach Kevin O’Connell put his trust in an offense that has been terrible instead of taking the points is very questionable.

The decision came immediately after Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was placed on a stretcher and carted off the field. Detroit’s defense was emotional and likely energized with their teammate on their mind.

When Minnesota and Detroit traded touchdowns on the next two drives, the Lions led 19-15. Had the Vikings kicked the field goal, it could’ve been 19-18 with 4:35 remaining.

Detroit’s lucky deflection

The Lions’ first three points of the game came nine plays after a lucky deflection helped them pick up a drive-sustaining first down. Facing a 3rd-and-9 situation, Jared Goff’s pass was deflected by Vikings defensive tackle Jalen Redmond, sending the ball wobbling sideways and into the ready hands of Amon-Ra St. Brown for a first down.

Without that lucky break, Detroit would’ve been punting after a three-and-out and kept off the scoreboard. Add in that Detroit’s other field goal came after an ugly Kyler Murray interception, and you can make a sound argument that Minnesota could’ve pitched a first-half shutout.

According to St. Paul Police Department, a fight broke out around 9:15 p.m. at an event being held at the Union Depot, prompting officers to call for additional squads.

“Officers arrived to control the scene. People were told to leave and the building was cleared,” St. Paul PD said. “It was determined that people started running, broke glass, and it was suspected that shots were fired. Officers found no evidence of a shooting and no injuries were reported. Again, no shots were fired.”

The event being held at the time was the Bundle Fall Market, which was scheduled from 3 to 11 p.m. According to Visit St. Paul, the market “brings together 105 Muslim-owned vendors selling food, fashion, fragrance and more, most of them young local entrepreneurs without a storefront.”

Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher, during his “Live on Patrol” YouTube stream, said between 5,000 and 7,000 people attended, and small number of suspected gang members marred the event.

“Halloween is always a little troubling. But this particular event is like, I just want to qualify it as saying, as always, it’s a few troubled parties that make trouble for everybody else. A lot of nice people, but unfortunately, gang members come to these events, and we did have some large fights that broke out,” Fletcher said.

“Every St. Paul car was called down here to assist,” Fletcher continued. “A little bit of chaos down here. And we knew from that this was always a possibility: that the gang members might show up here.”

No arrests have been made, and no further information has been provided.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office charged 35-year-old Melvonte Peterson with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the Aug. 31, 2020 shooting that killed Omar Berkley. 

The shooting happened in the 2900 block of Oliver Avenue North, where officers found Omar lying on the grass near the curb, suffering from gunshot wounds. A suspect vehicle was reportedly seen speeding away from the scene. 

Omar died shortly after being taken to the hospital. 

The new charges stem from additional witness testimony and evidence gathered in late 2025, according to the Minneapolis Police Department. 

Peterson is currently incarcerated. His previous convictions include a firearms-related conviction stemming from his involvement in a July 8, 2016, drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of his 2-year-old son, Le’Vonte King Jason Jones.  

“This case underscores the critical importance of cooperation from individuals who have information about crimes, particularly violent crimes,” the announcement from MPD read. 

“MPD encourages anyone with information about a crime to come forward and share what they know. No detail is too small, and no one should assume that someone else has already provided the information they possess.”

And somehow, despite an offense that has struggled to move the ball for more than a month, Minnesota nearly pulled it off before losing 23-16 in overtime.

Luke Drzewiecki’s 60-yard field goal with 19 seconds left should’ve been the game-winner. Instead, Indiana answered with a 60-yarder of its own to force overtime, scored on its first play and sacked Drake Lindsey on fourth down to end the game.

It was a heartbreaking finish, but it was also another reminder of a growing problem for Minnesota: Lindsey isn’t playing anything like the NFL prospect he was supposed to be.

And while offensive coordinator Greg Harbaugh Jr. deserves his share of the blame, it’s getting harder to excuse Lindsey’s performance simply because the Gophers are facing good defenses.

That’s essentially the explanation P.J. Fleck offered after the loss.

“I love his guts, I love his heart. He stood in there against a really good defense,” Fleck said. “I think what we lose sight of — and you guys don’t care about this, you have a job to do and I have a job to do — but these are really good defenses. You’re not just going to go out there and score 40 points because you want to score 40 points. That’s one of the best defenses in the country and draft picks all over the place.”

Fleck isn’t wrong about Indiana. The Hoosiers might have the best defense in the country. They’ve held Michigan to six points, Ohio State to 19, Nebraska to 17 and Rutgers to 15. Nobody has scored more than 23 points against them all season.

But Indiana isn’t the only defense that has made Lindsey look overmatched.

Since throwing three touchdowns in the first half against Washington on Sept. 26, Lindsey has completed just 79 of 140 passes (56.4%) for 720 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s also had a handful of passes that easily could’ve been intercepted.

That’s a prolonged slump for a quarterback who was generating legitimate NFL Draft buzz earlier this season.

And Fleck’s defense of Lindsey starts to lose credibility when we look at what other quarterbacks have done against those same defenses.

Michigan held Lindsey to 136 passing yards. But Penn State’s Rocco Becht threw for 267 yards against the Wolverines, while Iowa’s Hank Brown passed for 227 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner against Michigan.

How about Iowa? The Hawkeyes held Lindsey to 137 yards and an interception. Well, Washington’s Elijah Wilson completed 28 of 39 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns against the Hawkeyes. Michigan’s Bryce Underwood, who has since been benched, threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns against Iowa.

Purdue really sticks out like a sore thumb.

The Boilermakers made Minnesota’s offense look helpless in a game that was essentially over when the Gophers fell behind 27-3 early in the third quarter. Lindsey completed just 8 of 17 passes for 115 yards and an interception in the first half. He padded his numbers after the game got out of hand, completing 14 of his final 22 attempts for 133 yards and a touchdown.

Purdue has since lost to Washington and Penn State, allowing a combined 69 points. Wilson torched the Boilermakers for 300 yards and three touchdowns, while Becht efficiently threw for 175 yards and a score.

Why are Minnesota and Lindsey always getting shut down when other teams are finding ways to move the football against the defenses Fleck raves about?

Lindsey isn’t solely responsible for Minnesota’s offensive struggles. Harbaugh’s play-calling deserves scrutiny, and the offensive line and receivers have to do their jobs, too. But Lindsey has to make the throws and give his teammates a chance to make plays. He’s not doing that at a high level.

That’s what made the final play against Indiana so frustrating.

Facing fourth down from the 4-yard line in overtime, Lindsey took a sack. The game was over without Minnesota’s receivers and tight ends getting a chance to make a play in the end zone.

“Just can’t take a sack, (got to) understand the situation: fourth down,” Lindsey said afterward, according to the Pioneer Press. “Obviously, I understood the situation; it’s executing it, getting the ball up in the air and giving somebody the opportunity to make a play.”

There was a time earlier this season when Lindsey looked like a quarterback capable of elevating Minnesota’s offense. Some NFL Draft analysts even viewed him as a potential first- or second-day selection in 2027.

That version of Lindsey hasn’t been seen in more than a month.

Fleck can continue pointing to the quality of the defenses Minnesota faces. But if Lindsey is truly an NFL-caliber quarterback, shouldn’t he be lifting Minnesota’s offense instead of dragging it down?

Duluth Police Department says the shooting occurred in the 200 block of East 6th Street after an argument escalated into gunfire around 2:45 a.m.

“Initial information shows two known males were in an argument, which led to the shooting,” Duluth PD said in a release, noting that the investigation “remains very active.”

Police at the scene arrested a 26-year-old man, who is believed to have shot a 36-year-old man with whom he was arguing. The 36-year-old was taken to a local hospital and died from a single gunshot wound, police said.

“Our thoughts go out to the [36-year-old’s] friends, family, and loved ones as they are grieving his loss,” police added.

The victim’s name has not been released, and Bring Me The News does not typically name suspects until formal charges have been filed.

“We’ll start November dry, with highs today a good 15 degrees above normal,” the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities said Sunday. “Rain moves in tonight, with on and off rain chances Monday through Wednesday. It will be a widespread soaking rain, with 1 to 3 inches of rain expected by the time we get to Thursday.”

The NWS is confident that Monday will be a washout for most of Minnesota. Tuesday and Wednesday are less certain, but there will definitely be periods of rain to contend with.

By the time it’s done raining, totals could exceed three inches from northeast South Dakota into central Minnesota. That’s wild for this time of year, with the NWS noting that totals over three inches “would be more than twice our normal liquid precipitation for the entire month November.”

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Johnny A. Ortiz and Devin M. Casares were killed in a single-vehicle crash on County Road 20. The crash happened roughly a half-mile north of 150th Street Northwest, and was discovered and reported by a passerby at 11:50 a.m. Saturday.

The vehicle was overturned in a drainage ditch. Both men, who are from the town of Warren, Minnesota, were found inside the vehicle.

No further information has been released and the crash is under investigation.

Greg Harbaugh Jr.’s offense had another concerning outing.

The Gophers’ offense had 41 total yards on its first 22 plays of the game, but its 23rd play completely flipped the game on its head. A 39-yard reverse flea-flicker touchdown to Roman Voss was the only offensive success Minnesota had in the first half.

Minnesota finished with 215 total yards of offense and just 10 first downs. Indiana has one of the best defenses in college football, but the Gophers’ offense is stuck in neutral. They keep delivering solid results on the scoreboard, but something clearly needs to change.

Drake Lindsey’s turnover issues

Lindsey did a great job taking care of the football last season, which was his first as a college starting quarterback. He had eight turnovers all season in 2025, and he already has seven through eight games this season. He had a fourth straight concerning game, finishing 20 of 37 for 120 yards and one touchdown. The promising prospect we saw at the beginning of the season is nowhere to be found.

Special teams investment is paying off

Minnesota has had its fair share of special teams struggles since P.J. Fleck was hired in 2017. He clearly made an effort to improve that area in the offseason with the hire of Daniel Da Prato as the team’s new special teams coordinator. He brought New Mexico transfer kicker Luke Drzewiecki with him, and it has paid off in a big way.

Fleck saw how valuable special teams can be after a decade of watching Iowa, and his team has now followed the same blueprint. A pair of missed field goals from Indiana and some terrible punts were major differences in Saturday’s game. Special teams aren’t glamorous, but Minnesota might have a losing record with last year’s special teams unit.

Drzewiecki joined the Gophers in late August as part of the NCAA’s eligibility chaos, and he might have been their most important transfer portal addition of the offseason. It looked like he was about to become an all-time legend with a go-ahead 60-yard field goal with less than 30 seconds to go, but Indiana’s kicker stole the spotlight. He’s still a perfect 12 of 12 on field goals this season, and he’s one of the most consistent field goal kickers the program has ever had.

Danny Collins has found his groove

There was a lot of criticism surrounding Fleck’s decision to promote Collins to defensive coordinator before last season, and he had a roller-coaster first year as a defensive play caller. He had two concerning outings this season against Purdue and Mississippi State, but the Gophers’ defense has been tremendous in the other six games. He has clearly shown that he belongs at the Big Ten level.

The new stand follows closely on a September opening in Willmar and a late August opening in Duluth. 

It was just over a year ago that the chain said it planned to open more than 60 locations around Minnesota by 2030, and it’s inching toward that goal with this opening, its 10th in the state. 

The chain has made its name with simple constructions that offer what it claims to be more than 20,000 drink combinations across its espresso, coffee, energy drink, smoothie, shake, tea, and 7 Fizz Soda menu options. 

However, it has also been a polarizing expansion, with significant lines greeting openings, regularly causing traffic snarls. It has also drawn the ire of some who see its expansion as a private equity-backed push against locally-owned cafes. 7 Brew has had Blackstone Financial as an investor since 2024.

As part of its arrival in Baxter, the company presented a $2,000 donation to Gillette Children’s Foundation. 

“We are so proud to now be part of the Baxter community with our newest stand opening in Minnesota, and we look forward to continuing to spread kindness and serving coffee throughout the state,” said Max Wilson, the company’s human resources, marketing, and outreach director.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says the 20-year-old Hibbing man arrived at Fairview Range Hospital emergency room around 10:30 p.m. Friday with a “single gunshot wound to the head.”

Investigators were told that the man was among a group of people attending a bonfire at the Scott Lake boat landing south of Buhl.

“Deputies learned that friends of the victim heard a pop near his vehicle and located the victim laying near it,” the sheriff’s office said.

“The victim was transported to the hospital by his friends and later airlifted to a Duluth area hospital in what is believed to be serious condition.”

Police have not said how the man came to be shot, but say that no foul play is suspected.

Demuth, who currently serves as Minnesota House Speaker, was interviewed Thursday on The Jay Thomas Show on the Fargo-based radio station WDAY when she was asked about the state’s taxpayer-funded school breakfast and lunch program and confirmed she would eliminate it in favor of a return to an income-restricted system.

“There is no free lunch, my grandmother taught me that, it’s all taxpayer-funded,” Demuth said. “We want to make sure we’re helping kids and families that need it the most.”

“When you have families that have seven-figure incomes receiving free lunch on the backs of hardworking lower to middle-class Minnesotans as taxpayers, it doesn’t make sense.”

Out of the roughly 3 million tax filers in Minnesota, only 13,000 of them reported earnings of more than $1 million, based on 2024 figures reported by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journals. That’s about 0.43% of the state’s tax base, and it’s not clear how many of that 13,000 filers have school-age children.

Demuth said she supports raising the poverty limit to allow more families to qualify for a free school meals program.

Minnesota’s no-cost breakfast and lunch program provides two meals to all students at participating public, private and charter schools. The DFL legislation was signed into law by Gov. Tim Walz in 2023.

According to the Minnesota Department of Education, the program delivered 101 million lunches and 48 million breakfasts to students last school year.

Prior to this, access to free school meals was based on household income, something Demuth signaled would return if she is elected.

The notion of free school meals benefiting the wealthiest households was a common argument among Republicans opposed to universal free school meals before it was passed by the DFL in the Legislature. But one of the main reasons the previous system was replaced was because there was still a significant chunk of households who were eligible for free school meals, but didn’t apply for it.

Studies also found that around a third of students who didn’t qualify for free or reduced-price school lunches would skip meals, per MPR News. Another cited benefit of the universal program was that it also removed the potential stigma for students who received free school meals under a means-tested system.

A survey of students conducted by the University of Minnesota found that prior to universal school meals being introduced, about a fifth of school students had either been denied a meal due to lack of money in their account, or had seen another student being denied a meal for lack of money.

Minnesota universal school meal program is expected to have cost around $880 million across its first three years in operation, but is estimated to have saved households about $1,000 per year per student.

The Twin Cities-based taco chain’s seventh location will be in Hopkins. The team plans to open the restaurant at 786 Main St. — in the former home of a Chipotle — in mid-December. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg lettuce.

“Taco Libre is back in expansion mode,” Anthony Ramirez, who operates the restaurants with sister Luna Ramirez and father Adrian Ramirez, tells Bring Me The News. “After focusing on our other projects — Rio 1854 Latin Craft Kitchen, Mexatlán Supermercado, and Casa Luna Hall — we’re picking up the pace again, with plans to open four Taco Libre locations in 2027.”

The locations for those restaurants are yet to be revealed. 

They’re also keeping other details about the Hopkins restaurant under wraps until the launch, but Adrian says there will be new cocktails and a happy hour at this location, a first for the brand. 

Currently, Taco Libre operates locations in Eagan, Edina, Oakdale, Roseville, South St. Paul, and West St. Paul.

If the Vikings are actually interested in acquiring Taylor, they will have to move some things around. As things currently stand, Taylor’s current contract would not fit under Minnesota’s cap. NFL contracts are rarely black and white, so a trade is certainly possible, but Minnesota’s activity could signal its level of interest in the Colts’ star running back. What those moves would hypothetically be remains to be seen.

We’ve already seen Indianapolis trade star guard Quenton Nelson to the Seahawks and veteran defensive tackle DeForest Buckner back to the 49ers. With longtime GM Chris Ballard fired earlier this season, all signs point toward a fire sale in Indianapolis, but the Colts aren’t going to give Taylor away for nothing.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday that the Colts have already turned down a 2027 second-round draft pick plus an additional pick for Taylor. If new Vikings GM Nolan Teasley wants to pull off a blockbuster deal, it will require serious draft capital. Whether or not that offer came from Minnesota is unknown.

Through seven games, Taylor has 140 carries for 587 yards and eight touchdowns this season. He’s clearly one of the best running backs in the NFL, but he’s already 27 years old. Most running backs struggle to maintain that production into their 30s.

According to Over The Cap, Taylor’s contract is “very team-friendly” for a potential trade partner. Any team that trades for him would reportedly only owe about $4.4 million this year, plus up to $1 million in incentives. No 2027 salary is guaranteed until February.

Taylor’s situation has been compared to when Christian McCaffrey was traded from the Panthers to the 49ers in 2022, and Carolina received a second-, third- and fourth-round pick, along with a future fifth-round pick, in that deal.

All of the reporting and rumors could just be bargaining tactics from Indianapolis. The only people who truly know what it would take to acquire Taylor are in that building. We do know that the Colts are open to trading their star running back, but it’s going to require a lot of assets.

Nick Saban, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Kirk Herbstreit, guest picker Isiah Thomas and even Stanford Steve all picked the Hoosiers to take care of business at home.

“I think Minnesota is kind of a scavenger team; they find a way to win. They play good defense, they win ugly,” Saban said. “But I think Indiana, even though they’re not 100% healthy. I think they’re going to bounce back in this one. I am all for Indiana and Coach (Cignetti).”

Thomas was so confident in his Hoosiers that he predicted Minnesota might not even get past the 50-yard line.

Indiana is currently a 20.5-point betting favorite, so it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that the experts are rolling with the Hoosiers at home. P.J. Fleck has already pulled off a trio of significant upsets this season, but knocking off Indiana would be the biggest of his career.

One of the best seasonal changes is the shift from big tours in the fall to the hometown shows and residencies of December and January. There’s something kind of comforting in the shift. It feels seasonally appropriate and like a soothing transition away from the chaos of fall tours.

In that spirit, Soul Asylum shared a date for its annual holiday show at First Avenue. That’s one of the staples of that December/January period alongside Charlie Parr’s Turf Club residency, Bad Plus’ holiday shows at The Dakota, and Drone Not Drones.

Elsewhere, Swedish metal giants Meshuggah announced a 40th anniversary tour that will include a stop at The Armory. Greensky Bluegrass is heading to the Palace Theatre in the spring. Songwriter Lydia Loveless is coming to Cloudland Theater.

Oh, and Donny Osmand is bringing a tour to the State Theatre in July, in case you need a show where it’s appropriate to yell “I’m having your baby.”

On Thursday, Minnesota nonprofit advocacy group Gender Justice filed a lawsuit on behalf of a 16-year-old transgender boy and his mother. The lawsuit alleges that Essentia Health ended gender-affirming care for the boy and its other minor patients, which it argues constitutes discrimination under Minnesota law. 

The boy first began receiving gender-affirming care at Essentia Health five years ago at the onset of puberty, according to the lawsuit. 

“Parents should never have to fear for their child’s life, safety, and happiness because of discrimination,” the boy’s mother said in a statement. “This has caused much suffering for our family.”

Gender Justice’s announcement notes that Essentia Health is a provider of gender-affirming care for both minor patients in Minnesota and those coming from states like Michigan and North Dakota, where access to such treatments is restricted or illegal. 

Essentia Health isn’t the only Minnesota healthcare system to garner attention for rolling back gender-affirming care for minors, which includes treatments like puberty-suppressing medications.

Last spring, Children’s Minnesota announced it would resume all services in its Gender Health program after pausing them amid threats from the Trump administration to withdraw federal funding. 

The decision came after a federal court ruling vacated a declaration by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. regarding the treatment of pediatric gender dysphoria.

Essentia Health told WCCO that it cannot comment on pending or active litigation “out of respect for patient privacy.”

Wherever fans are on the emotional roller coaster, the Hennepin County Library and St. Paul Public Library have introduced new ways to sport that fandom. Both library systems have launched a limited-edition Wolves-themed library card.

In Hennepin County, the card was designed by Twin Cities-based visual artist Reggie LeFlore, known for his public art projects and spray-painted murals. 

“For this project, a remixed version of the Timberwolves logo was made using the new logo and these signature techniques,” LeFlore explains in an announcement. “The design features brand-inspired hand-lettering set against a ripped paper-like texture, revealing an alternative green sketch beneath the surface.”

Meanwhile, the St. Paul cards were crafted by Delia Touché, a St. Paul-based Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota and Assiniboine printmaker, bookmaker, and fiber artist.

“Basketball was introduced to Native American students during the Boarding School Era as part of broader efforts to assimilate Indigenous youth; to sever cultural and community ties. Rather than being a successful tool for assimilation, the sport became a source of refuge, resilience, and community for Native People,” Touché says in an announcement.

“Basketball holds a special place in Indian Country and has become more than a sport. It creates a space for gathering, healing, and a way of carrying culture forward. I combined personal archives of my own community’s basketball tournaments with Indigenous iconography to reflect on the ways basketball has become intertwined with cultural identity.”

This isn’t the end of the partnership between the organization and area libraries. Both systems will introduce a Minnesota Lynx card in the spring, around the start of the next WNBA season.

The cards are available to current and new cardholders at all library locations within those systems and are free with your (also free) library membership. 

Unfortunately, for anyone who grabbed one of those limited-edition Prince library cards in Hennepin County last year — raises hand — you can only have one active card. So, you’ll have to pick between The Purple One, Ant, or your love of Olivia Miles.

On Friday, more than a year after shutting the doors, Gyros Grill reopened at 8417 Lyndale Ave. S.

Gyros began its journey in 2001 as a grocery store called Cedar Market and Deli at 1710 East Old Shakopee Road. The shop, founded by Imad and Rand Ansari, specialized in importing food from the Middle East. Over time, it expanded its offerings and upgraded the kitchen, eventually changing the name to Gyros Grill.

Kareem Ansari, who co-owns the store with his father Imad, tells Bring Me The News that the shop’s popularity kept growing, but the business was hemmed in by the size of its kitchen and dining area, as well as the limited parking.

“So, it was time for us to find a larger space close to our previous location and expand to fit the needs of the community,” Ansari says. “It is all of our family working together and taking care of this small business.”

The new location features a similar menu to the original spot, centered around its popular gyros, Philly cheesesteaks, and other halal Mediterranean dishes, including falafels and kufta kabobs.

However, there will also be what Kareem is calling a cafe-style menu with pistachio lattes and Sweet Nia’s Dubai cookies and chocolates. It will also continue to offer a grocery section stocked with imported Middle Eastern foods. 

Gyros Grill is now open daily at 8417 Lyndale Ave. S in Bloomington.

Kenis Lopez, 42, a Nicaraguan national who has been working in construction, was arrested by federal agents during Operation Metro Surge in January, despite going through the asylum process since arriving in 2022, fearing political persecution and possible torture were he and his family to return to Nicaragua.

It was reported by the Minnesota Reformer this week that Lopez had been flown by ICE to the politically unstable Central African Republic, one of several nations where the Trump administration has been deporting some of those detained in its widespread immigration crackdowns.

In an order issued on Friday, Judge Jeffrey Bryan ordered that DHS facilitate Lopez’s release from detention in the Central African Republic and his return to Minnesota, and not remove him again while his case is pending.

The DHS, Bryan said, has “offered no reasons at all for detaining Lopez” or any evidence for why his supervised release should be revoked.

“Nothing in the record suggests changed circumstances or that Lopez would have
been removed in the reasonably foreseeable future, nor that ICE made any reasoned
determination to detain Lopez,” Bryan wrote.

“[DHS did not have a plan (i.e., travel documents) to remove Lopez in the reasonably foreseeable future at the time of revocation – instead, after arresting him, Lopez was shuffled between four detention camp facilities in Texas and Louisiana over the course of seven-and-a-half months while being told he would be deported to Nicaragua, Mexico, and, finally, to the Central African Republic.”

His deportation has been criticized by 2nd District Rep. Angie Craig, who said: “Kenis is a business owner and had a work permit as well as a court order preventing his deportation.

“Third-country deportations are dangerous and unacceptable. There is no reason a law-abiding Minnesotan should be deported to a country where they have never been. This has to stop.”

Timeline of Lopez’s stay in U.S.

The ruling revealed that after entering the U.S. at the Mexico border in October 2022, Lopez immediately presented himself to immigration authorities and was granted access, traveling to Minnesota where he applied for asylum due to fear of harm from the government if he were to return to Nicaragua.

In May 2024, he scheduled an ICE appointment where his asylum case would be reviewed, only to be detained upon his arrival for the appointment. In August, an immigration judge approved Lopez’s removal from the country, but also granted a withholding of removal and ordered Lopez be put on an order of supervision, which was due to protections that prevent the government from deporting people who may be tortured in their home country.

Bryan’s ruling says that while under the order of supervision, Lopez complied with all conditions of his release, including attending scheduled check-in appointments, not traveling outside of Minnesota, not committing any crimes, and not associating with gang members or criminals.

“In addition, while released on the [protection order], Lopez resided in Shakopee,
Minnesota, where he operated a construction company, attended church, paid his taxes,
and obtained a REAL ID Minnesota driver’s license.”

On Jan. 15, 2026, Lopez was leaving for work and walked outside to warm up his car when eight federal agents rolled up outside his home and asked him if he was a citizen.

Lopez explained he wasn’t, but that he had been granted a withholding and showed agents his work permit, his order of supervision, and his Real ID. The agents arrested him, took him to a detention center, placed him in restraints, and told him he would be deported.

Despite being told by an ICE agent that his asylum had been “approved,” Lopez was flown to El Paso, Texas, that same night. He stayed there for weeks, during which agents confirmed his withholding of removal was approved, and asked him to sign documents confirming his detention in El Paso, which he declined to do because they were in English and he couldn’t be sure of what they said.

During his stay in El Paso, agents tried to deport him back to Nicaragua, to which Lopez objected, and also tried to deport him to Mexico, meeting the same objections. He was transferred to a facility in Jackson Parish, Louisiana, where he was finally “able to establish regular contact with family and counsel,” having previously been limited to a 3-minute phone call every 2-3 days while in El Paso.

While a habeus corpus petition from his lawyer was still pending in court, ICE suddenly moved Lopez to a facility in Alvarado, Texas, placing him in a cell with four other men from Nicaragua who also had been granted a withholding of removal.

Deportation to Central African Republic

In late August he was told he would be flown to the Central African Republic, and told officers he would prefer to be sent home to die rather than being sent to Africa to die.

An ICE supervisor told him it was “not my business” but if Lopez wanted to die “that was what would happen,” adding that “they could kill [Lopez and the others] right there.”

The detainees refused to leave the bus, with ICE agents then firing projectiles and tear gas at them, which left welts on Lopez’s legs, chest, and arms. They were eventually forced off the bus and onto an airplane, flying for two days with brief stops in Ghana and Sierra Leone before arriving in the Central African Republic.

Since late September he has been living with a roommate in an apartment in the African nation surveilled by armed guards, with around 40 other deported individuals in the building with them, and have been told they risk being killed or made to “disappear” if they leave the building.

“While he remains in the Central African Republic, Lopez is a target for violent
criminals,” Bryan’s order reads. “He cannot leave the Central African Republic for lack of status, he depends on the charity of a third party to survive, and he fears bodily harm if he goes outside (essentially, he remains in a quasi-carceral setting even though he is no longer detained by ICE).”

The hours-long meeting culminated with all six measures relating to the 1.7 million sq. ft. data center being unanimously approved by the council’s five members: Mayor Wayne Boucher and Council Members John Geissler, Joe Peterson, Andy Hjelle, and Brian LeBlanc.

It followed an hour-long discussion that included submissions from representatives of Google and Minnesota Power, followed by four hours of public comment mostly from those objecting to the project amid widespread concerns over the center’s water use and impact on the surrounding environment and residents.

The council had limited public attendance at Friday’s rescheduled meeting to 85 people after protests during Monday’s meeting forced its postponement, but a large crowd remained outside to register its objections to the project, with a police cordon in place to limit access to city hall.

Measures passed by the council on Friday include a special-use permit allowing Google to use a site in the southwest of the city for the data center. Councilors also passed a development agreement with Google and a cooperative agreement with St. Louis County, and rejected a citizen petition for an environmental assessment worksheet.

The meeting follows more than a year of pushback from local residents and environmental groups after it emerged that city and county officials had been meeting with Google for more than a year before the project became public, with several entering into non-disclosure agreements that prevented them from discussing the project.

Among the contentious moments during Friday’s meeting was a public comment from one resident who identified the addresses of all five council members to point out how far away each member lives away from the proposed data center.

“I don’t believe any of you guys are going to be directly impacted from the major effects of the sound or vibration issues,” he said, before calling for two minutes of silence at the meeting.

At this point, Mayor Boucher said, “You’re done,” and ordered him to leave the stand, to which the man responded: “F****** make me.” Police officers then came in to remove the man.”

The sprawling complex, when constructed, will comprise three 375,000 sq. ft. data buildings that will be 33-feet tall, and three 150,000 sq. ft. mechanical buildings, as well as two office buildings and a fire suppression building, per the Duluth News Tribune.

Minneapolis PD announced Friday evening that a 30-year-old man was taken into custody and is facing second-degree murder charges in the killing of Joseph Denny Nezperce, 36, of South St. Paul.

Nezperce was shot on board a Green line train traveling from Stadium Village in Minneapolis towards St. Paul at around 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3. Nezperce died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts by responders at Westgate station.

The shooter fled the train shortly after the incident, but was identified following a weeks-long investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies, including Minneapolis PD, Metro Transit PD, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

“I recognize that an arrest will not undo their loss or ease the pain they are experiencing, but we hope this development brings some measure of comfort and reassurance that we remain committed to seeking justice on their behalf,” said Interim MPD Chief Billy Peterson. “We will continue to stand with them as this case moves forward.” 

“If you commit a crime on the Metro Transit system, we will find you. We will arrest you and hold you accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” said Chief Joseph Dotseth, Metro Transit Police Department.

“We are working diligently to provide a consistently safe experience on transit, including a strong official presence of Metro Transit police officers and security personnel. Every rider deserves to get where they’re going safely, and we will not back down from that commitment.”

More details are expected to be released when the suspect is charged. Bring Me The News does not typically name suspects until they have been formally charged with a crime.

Several inches of rain are expected to fall by the end of Tuesday, with moderate to heavy rain on Monday to be followed by storms on Tuesday. The National Weather Service-Twin Cities says a slow-moving low pressure system will drop a “widespread” 1-2 inches of rain, with some areas seeing more than 3 inches.

As things stand the heaviest rain is expected to be in central and west-central Minnesota, but the Twin Cities is also in the area seeing elevated amounts. The NWS says the current track of the system takes it from Canby in western Minnesota, through the Twin Cities and then into northwestern Wisconsin.

“This system will have near record high moisture content for November, with a widespread soaking rain expected,” the NWS said in its Friday evening forcast discussion.

“This high moisture content paired with a [low level jet] in excess of 50 kts will create zone of strong and very moist isentropic lift ahead of the low during the day on Monday, which will result a shield of moderate to heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms moving across the area, with a widespread 1-2″ of rain expected with just this,” the Saturday morning discussion reads.

“Tuesday afternoon, we`ll also likely see another round of showers and thunderstorms develop ahead of this systems cold front from eastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin. When all is said and done, some very anomalous rainfall amounts for November look likely.

“Where we double dip on the isentropic lift and deformation forcing north of the surface low track, a storm total of 2-3+” of rain still looks like with this storm. Given where the NBM currently shows the surface low track, these high end rain amounts look most likely from western into central Minnesota.”

Here’s a look at what some of the models are predicting for total rainfall by Wednesday, with the Euro in particular predicting heavy rain in central Minnesota, some of which would reach the Twin Cities.

The city is one of seven cities in the running to host a Final Four between 2032 and 2036. The other six cities are Detroit, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Phoenix, and San Antonio.

Columbus, Ohio (Nationwide Arena) will host this season’s tournament, while Indianapolis (Gainbridge Fieldhouse) will host in 2028, with the finals location set through 2031.

A decision on who will host between 2032-2036 isn’t expected until July. City representatives will present to the NCAA committees why they should be selected as a host city during the organization’s annual summer meetings.

In a social post celebrating the news on Friday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey claimed the 2022 Final Four “generated $36 million worth of economic impact.” That year’s Final Four was hosted at Target Center.

Minnesota Sports and Events posted on social media earlier in the week, saying, “We’re honored and excited to be named a finalist to host the NCAA Women’s Final Four. This recognition reflects Minnesota’s passion for women’s sports, our exceptional venues and our proven ability to deliver an unforgettable experience for student-athletes, fans and visitors.”

The South Carolina Gamecocks won the 2022 Women’s National Championship Game, beating the UConn Huskies, which featured Minnesota native Paige Bueckers, 64-49.

Target Center will host first- and second-round play in the 2027 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Minneapolis was not named a finalist to host a Men’s Final Four.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office says the crash was reported at around 7:10 a.m. on West Warren Street in the Village of Roberts, a residential street with a speed limit of 25 mph.

Police arrived to find the driver was not breathing and he was removed from the crashed Kia Sportage. Despite lifesaving measures, he died at the scene.

He was identified as Matthew Drinkwine, 41, of Roberts.

Police say Drinkwine was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

It’s the fifth traffic fatality in St. Croix County so far this year.

The incident unfolded recently in the area of Douglas Drive North and 36th Avenue North in Crystal, where Crystal PD says a driver “ran a red light, accelerated to 60 mph in a posted 30 mph zone, lost control, and plowed straight through several traffic signs on the center median. “

A police officer was in pursuit as the driver, which was pulling a trailer, careened into the median. The video shared by Crystal PD is partially redacted, seemingly to remove an identifying feature from the trailer.

“It is a miracle no one was injured or killed,” the department said. “The driver’s blood alcohol content was later revealed to be three times the legal limit.”

The legal limit for alcohol when driving in Minnesota is 0.08 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

There have been 274 fatalities on Minnesota roads so far in 2026 as of the end of September, with 89 alcohol a factor in 89 of those – the most common contributing factor to a fatal crash this year.

“These aren’t just statistics – they are neighbors, friends, and family members who didn’t make it home,” Crystal PD said.

Lutsen Mountains, the northern Minnesota resort along the north shore, has announced that it will open on Friday, Nov. 26, a day after Thanksgiving. 

The resort has also announced that it’s offering discounted rates early in the season to counteract the rising price of… well, everything. The discounts include 50% off holiday rates from opening day through Dec. 25, as well as up to 25% off Ski & Stay packages booked by Oct. 31. 

After Oct. 31, that will shift to 20% off Ski & Stay packages when booked at least 10 days in advance or 10% off stays or skiing when purchased separately. Other discounts and packages are available throughout the 2026-27 season and are detailed on the Lutsen website. 

New this year, Lutsen will be an Ikon Pass partner resort, as will the other Midwest Family Ski Resorts: Granite Peak in Wisconsin and Snowriver Mountain Resort in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. That means that Ikon Pass holders get seven days of direct-to-lift access at each resort without any blackout dates.

After six weeks of early voting, the Minnesota Secretary of State has accepted 728,961 absentee ballots, including 483,520 cast in person and 245,441 cast by mail.

The previous record in a non-presidential year was 451,992 absentee ballots, set at the same point during the 2022 midterm election.

This year’s figure as of Thursday represents a 61.3% increase from 2022.

Minneapolis already surpassed the highest number of absentee ballots that it has seen in a non-presidential election, too.

As of Wednesday, a total of 52,661 ballots had been accepted, breaking the previous record of 52,313 in 2018, part-way through President Donald Trump’s first term when Minnesotans first elected Gov. Tim Walz and voted on many other local and statewide races.

“Setting a new early voting record in a non-presidential election year sends a powerful message: every election matters, every voice counts, and our democracy is strongest when we all participate,” Mayor Jacob Frey said in a statement.

Another statewide early voting record for a non-presidential election year was broken by the 254,786 absentee ballots cast in the August primary.

The record-breaking turnout comes as Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon is preparing for the possibility that the federal government will attempt to interfere with voting at the polls or ballot counting.

Democrats have accused Trump of laying the groundwork to rig critical midterm elections in favor of Republicans.

In a Monday social media post, Trump alleged with no evidence that “the only way” Republican Michele Tafoya can lose Minnesota’s U.S. Senate race is if election officials “cheat by playing games with the ballots as they come in.”

Trump added that the federal government will be “watching closely” on Election Day and repeated his lie that he won Minnesota in the 2016, 2020 and 2024 presidential elections, though in reality he lost all three.

Arthur Wilber, 88, of Hendricks, was driving a Ford Ranger northbound in the southbound lanes of I-29 north of Colman on Monday evening, eventually striking a minivan that police say was in the process of overtaking a semi-trailer and couldn’t avoid the oncoming pickup.

Three girls in the minivan – aged 16, 15 and 12 – were killed, and a fourth was seriously injured.

An obituary for Wilber describes his death as being from an “uncharacteristic and inexplicable chain of events that resulted in tremendous loss that impacted many families.”

Wilber was a South Dakota native, spending most of his life in the state before moving to Hendricks in his later years to be closer to family. He was married to wife Sandra for 65 years before her death in 2024.

He is survived by four children, nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

The girls who were killed in the collision have not been formally identified as of Friday, but they have been identified via online obituaries and fundraisers as Ivory Dispirito, 15, who was driving; Allionaeh Smith-Kuhnel, 12; and Faith Zephier, 16, per the Star Tribune.

They are all from Flandreau, South Dakota.

The thoroughfare has been closed for decades, once housing a large Kmart that opened in 1978. On Nov. 24, traffic will again run from Nicollet Avenue south of Lake Street, through the former Kmart lot and on into the Eat Street section of Nicollet, according to multiple reports.

The decision to block off Nicollet Avenue for Kmart was a controversial decision from the beginning. The city had hoped Kmart would serve as a hub for revitalizing the neighborhood, spending millions to acquire and ready the lot for Kmart, per the Star Tribune.

A return to its pre-Kmart layout was set in motion in 2020, when Minneapolis city leaders agreed to pay $9 million to buy out the store’s lease. A 2023 fire in the vacant store accelerated the need for a demolition.

Officials say the Nov. 24 opening date is tentative, based on weather and work being completed, FOX 9 reports. The project has included road construction and improvements to the Midtown Greenway bridge.

However, before it reopens to traffic, the city is partnering with neighborhood associations for a party on Nov. 8. Promotional materials for the event say “Nicollet will be open for biking, strolling, and dancing,” with a DJ set from Jake Rudh of Transmission on The Current.

While the reopening of Nicollet Avenue is a major step in the redevelopment, the overall project is a long way from completion.

In early 2025, the city unveiled a development framework for the area that included a park, condos, and space for small businesses. At the time, City Council Vice President Aisha Chughtai called it a “generational investment.”

In April, the city chose Trellis, a nonprofit developer based in Minneapolis, to lead the development’s first phase.

“Next, the development team will work to secure financing and update the project design, plans, and cost estimates,” the city’s project page says. “It will take about three to five years to fund Phase 1 and begin construction.”

Subsequent phases of the redevelopment won’t begin until Phase 1 is underway.

St. Paul Police Department say the victim from the collision at Ford Parkway and Cleveland Avenue South was Karen McElveen, 69, of Apple Valley.

McElveen was reportedly crossing Cleveland Avenue South when she was struck by the vehicle just after 8 a.m., and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident caused the closure of the busy commercial intersection for several hours as investigators worked at the scene. It reopened shortly before noon.

The dump truck driver, a man, remained at the scene and “is cooperating with the investigation,” police said, and “no signs of impairment were observed.”

More details on the circumstances of the collision are yet to be released.

Family members have confirmed the death of Daniel Hodges, with a GoFundMe campaign set up on behalf of his family saying: “Last week, we experienced the unexpected and tragic loss of Daniel Hodges

“His friends and family are shocked and devastated by this news. Daniel had many talents and passions and relished coaching and educating as a way to express his artistic heart. He was a driven, creative friend that touched many lives, minds, and hearts.

“Those that had the privilege of knowing him have been for ever changed, his impact will last far beyond his 39 years. Daniel will be deeply missed.”

Tribute has been paid by the Apple Valley High School Speech and Debate Team, which shared praise for the talented speech coach on its Instagram page.

“For over a decade, Daniel was the heart and soul of the AVHS Speech and Debate program,” the department said. “During that time, he would become one the country’s most highly decorated active coaches. He navigated at least 34 students to the final rounds of the NCFL and NSDA Grand National tournaments, of which 13 were crowned as national champions.

“Yet his most significant contribution to AVHS was the way that he transformed and grew the program. Beyond his creative and intellectual talents, Daniel had the gift of seeing extraordinary potential in students and pushing them to realize that potential.”

Hodges’ Facebook page is filled with a myriad of tributes from family, friends and former students.

A memorial is being planned for Hodges in Sioux Falls, SD, the details of which are yet to be publicly announced.

Funds raised via the donation page will help with his family’s funeral expenses and financial relief, but anything raised beyond that will support a scholarship for future Apple Valley Speech and Debate students.

Details have not been shared regarding Hodges’ cause of death.

Beringer’s salary will rise from $4.4 million this season to $4.6 million for the 2027-28 season, according to HoopsHype. Meanwhile, Shannon’s salary will jump from $2.8 million during the 2026-27 season to just over $5 million next season.

Beringer, 19, was the No. 17 overall pick by the Wolves in the 2025 NBA draft. Minnesota still has one more team option ($7.09 million) in the 2028-29 season on Beringer. They can also use a qualifying offer on him for the 2029-30 season.

After the offseason departures of Julius Randle and Naz Reid, the young French big man has seen his minute load increase early on in the 2026-27 season. As Rudy Gobert’s backup, Beringer has jumped from averaging 7.9 minutes a night during his rookie campaign to around 15.6 minutes in five appearances this season. Beringer is averaging 6.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game on 68.2 percent shooting from the field so far.

Through five games, his per-36-minute averages are 15.7 points and 17.5 rebounds.

Shannon, 26, was the No. 27 overall pick by Minnesota in the 2024 NBA draft. The team option that was reportedly extended on Friday was the final one Minnesota had on the guard’s contract. The Wolves have the option for a qualifying offer on Shannon for the 2028-29 season.

Shannon has continued to build off a strong playoff performance last year. He has seen his workload increase from 12.5 minutes of action per game last year to 23.2 minutes of play per night this season.

Over the Wolves’ first five games, he has averaged 14.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, while making 11 of 25 threes (44 percent). With Anthony Edwards’ injury taking the Wolves superstar out for around two months, Shannon is likely to see even more playing time as Minnesota’s sixth man.

The Wolves are declining the team option on new wing Cody Williams, per Krawczynski. They’ve liked what they’ve seen from the 21-year-old behind the scenes, so this is primarily a financial decision. Williams, who didn’t pan out over two seasons with Utah after being taken 10th overall in 2024, has played 11 garbage-time minutes for Minnesota thus far.

The Minnesota Department of Corrections confirmed Friday that former owner CoreCivic said it was willing to sell the former Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton to the state for $75 million last May.

CoreCivic turned around and sold the 1,600-bed facility to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for $495.6 million in August, with plans to use it as a detention center for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees.

Swift County assessed the property’s total market value at $14.75 million in 2026.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is now calling on Congress to investigate the federal government’s “massive $420 million overpayment” to CoreCivic using taxpayer money.

“Donald Trump is the most corrupt president in living memory, and even for him, this is shocking,” Ellison said in a statement Friday. “I’m calling on House and Senate Homeland Security Committees, and the House Oversight Committee, to immediately begin investigating why Trump paid almost half a billion to a Trump donor for a prison worth just $75 million. Trump scamming taxpayers out of almost half a billion dollars is outrageous, especially at a time when Trump’s tariffs and war in Iran are already raising prices for Minnesotans.”

KARE 11 initially reported the overpayment for the Appleton prison, noting that it’s more than the estimated amount that taxpayers lost to fraudsters involved in the Feeding Our Future scheme.

Similarly, Homeland Security paid at least double for 11 warehouses that it planned to convert into ICE detention centers in early 2026, though some traded for up to ten times more than their estimated worth.

A month before its Appleton purchase, the department spent $739 million on the Otay Mesa detention center in San Diego, nearly five times its $160 million assessed value.

Homeland Security paid almost seven times more than the price offered to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.

CoreCivic told KARE 11 that “the federal government ultimately determined the sale price following its assessment process.”

Democratic U.S. Sen. Tina Smith questioned the seemingly inflated sale price in a social media post Friday.

“So we’re supposed to believe there’s no money for health care, but there’s enough money for ICE to spend nearly $500 million buying an abandoned private prison in MN that was originally offered for sale at $75 million just last year? If that sounds like taxpayers are getting ripped off, it’s because you are.”

At the direction of now-former CoreCivic CEO Patrick D. Swindle, the private prison company donated $500,000 to President Donald Trump’s 2025 inaugural committee and contributed $1.77 million towards lobbying for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which enabled Homeland Security to buy the detention centers.

A store closing sale got underway this week at Kuipers Ace Hardware, located in the Golden Valley Shopping Center off of Olson Memorial Highway.

Signs in the window say many items are now half off as the store tries to shed its inventory.

Kuipers Ace Hardware opened in the mid-1950s, with owner Dale Hoffmann telling CCX Media in 2016 that some of his employees have been there since the store’s early days, including at least one cashier and a mechanic.

Hoffman, who started working there in the ’70s, said at the time that customers like seeing the same people over and over again.

The hardware store’s status as the Golden Valley community’s go-to is clear in the reaction to its upcoming closure.

One resident said in a Facebook post that his family has been shopping there for more than 50 years.

“Truly the end of an era,” another local wrote on Instagram. “Kuipers has been there as long as I can remember.”

The Golden Valley Shopping Center was built in 1953, meaning Kuipers Ace Hardware is likely its longest-standing tenant.

KSTP reported earlier this year that the hardware store was celebrating 71 years.

Other shops in the strip mall include Ragstock, Liquor Barrel, and Down in the Valley, which has been there since 1986.

The candidates’ final days on the campaign trail arrive at a moment when Gov. Tim Walz and President Donald Trump are both very unpopular with Minnesota voters.

Klobuchar has argued that Demuth would be a “rubber stamp” for the Trump administration if elected, and Demuth has claimed Minnesotans would see more of the same under Klobuchar’s governance.

The candidates are aligned on a promise to not raise taxes and root out fraud, but differ substantially on other top-of-mind issues for Minnesotans such as the federal immigration crackdown and gun control measures.

Here’s an overview of where the candidates stand on some of those key issues:

Cost of living

When it comes to lowering the cost of living for Minnesotans, Klobuchar and Demuth are aligned on their commitment to avoid tax increases.

Klobuchar aims to see 100,000 new housing units built by the end of her term if she’s elected and she’s said increasing the supply of homes that are cheaper and faster to build, such as modular homes, will drive down housing costs.

Demuth is critical of a broad range of state mandates on cities, counties and school districts and said she’ll convene a blue-ribbon commission to explore lowering property taxes.

During last week’s debate, Demuth blamed the financial strain on Minnesotans on the repercussions of the 2023-2024 biennium’s DFL trifecta and Klobuchar pointed to the President Donald Trump’s tariffs and the war in Iran, which has caused prices to spike across the country.

Klobuchar has cited decreased exports, a drop in tourism from Canada, higher gas prices and a rise in healthcare premiums among the ways Minnesotans have experienced economic hurt from the policies of the Trump administration.

Demuth opposes Minnesota’s paid family and medical leave program, which she has said puts businesses in “an unworkable position“, and has criticized the Democratic lawmakers for not returning more state surplus dollars to taxpayers.

ICE in Minnesota

The candidates differ substantially on Operation Metro Surge and Klobuchar claims Demuth will be a “rubber stamp” for the Trump administration.

Demuth defended the ICE surge and joined House Republicans in signing a December letter praising Kristi Noem.

In an interview with MPR News following the killing of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, Demuth said federal agents were in Minnesota “carrying out federal law to protect American citizens” and blamed failures of local law enforcement for the intensity of the surge.

Klobuchar has strongly condemned the killings of Good and Pretti and the tactics of federal agents, saying ICE operations made Minnesotans less safe, and has back large-scale reforms of the controversial department.

Fraud

Both candidates have criticized Gov. Tim Walz on the issue of fraud and both have promised to send fraudsters to jail and establish new internal controls to protect taxpayers’ dollars if elected. 

Demuth has vowed to clean house and replace all commissioners in every state agency to change what she describes as a “culture of fraud and waste.” 

Klobuchar has touted her experience as a prosecutor and said she’ll work to change the status quo beginning with a “top to bottom” audit. 

Both candidates have emphasized enhancing whistleblower protections.

Gun control

The parents of Harper Moyski, the 10-year-old girl killed in the Annunciation mass shooting, have endorsed Klobuchar and accused Demuth of lying to them.

They claim Demuth told them she wouldn’t block a ban on assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines from reaching the House floor for a vote, but Demuth months later decided not to bring a gun safety package to the floor.

Demuth has rejected the characterization that she lied, noting that gun control proposals were considered in House committees.

Klobuchar said she’ll sign gun violence prevention measures into law if elected governor. She’s expressed support for banning assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines and tighter safe storage laws.

Both candidates support more mental health resources, particularly for youth.

Trump

Trump endorsed Mike Lindell in the race ahead of the August primary, but he’s since called on voters to support Demuth on Election Day, writing on Oct. 21: “VOTE FOR THE REPUBLICAN IN EVERY RACE, UP AND DOWN THE BALLOT” in Minnesota.

Both Demuth and Klobuchar have called for an end to the war in Iran, although Klobuchar has criticized Demuth for not speaking out until last month.

Demuth has not embraced Trump to the same extent that previous candidates have in Minnesota, at a time the president has record low approval ratings, but still has his backing. Earlier this year she argued Trump was the “only president that has fought for peace nationwide” and is taking steps “to try to improve the conditions for Americans.”

Klobuchar is a consistent critic of the president, though has faced criticism from progressive groups for voting through some of his judicial and executive nominees during his second term while she served in the Senate.

Mining and the Boundary Waters

Demuth has vowed to rescind Walz’s executive order that halted permitting or reviewing mining proposals in the Boundary Waters watershed, saying Minnesota’s “stringent” regulatory review process is sufficient for determining which projects should move forward.

Klobuchar has vowed to protect the Boundary Waters and while she supports more mining in Minnesota, she’s expressed concern over projects near the Boundary Waters and said she’ll review Walz’s executive order in further detail if elected.

Her announced plans for a path forward for Evie at a Thursday press conference. She was joined by State Representatives Katie Jones and Meg Luger-Nikolai as they announced the city has secured an additional $160,000 to put toward carshare next year, bringing the total investment to $300,000. 

HourCar ceased service of its conventional, hub-based rental option, also called HourCar, earlier this month. It also ended its Evie program, which operated as an electric-car sharing service and charging network where vehicles could be driven point-to-point and drivers pay for the time that they use.

The nonprofit cited financial pressures caused by rising insurance costs and reduced federal support in its announcement. 

St. Paul leases the Evie fleet of vehicles, while both Minneapolis and St. Paul share ownership of the electric-vehicle charging network.

Following the end of service, St. Paul recovered almost 200 vehicles under city lease, Her said. The newly secured funding will be used to look for a new operator to keep the fleet running. 

“Saint Paul is not walking away from carshare,” Her said during the press conference. “This is about the people and families who rely on this service. Climate change isn’t waiting, and neither can we. We are using creative funding sources to bridge the gap in our service area, and we are inviting others to join us.”

However, no date for the service to resume has been shared by the mayor’s office, and there remains a question mark over the involvement of other municipalities, namely Minneapolis and Hennepin County.

The Minnesota State Patrol a Mitsubishi Outlander traveling west on Highway 7 in East Lake Lillian Township, Kandiyohi County, was in a collision with an eastbound semi-trailer at around 2:20 a.m.

The Mitsubishi driver, identified as 33-year-old Brittany Gehrke, of Cosmos, died at the scene. Police say she was not wearing a seat belt.

The two men in the semi, which was being driven by a 41-year-old man from Cottonwood, Minnesota, were not injured.

No details have been provided regarding how the two vehicles came to collide. Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

It’s one of several restrictions being implemented ahead of the 6:30 p.m. meeting at the Hermantown Governmental Services Building, where a sit-in protest involving dozens of opponents led to its postponement Monday.

Attendees are prohibited from bringing bags and backpacks into the council chambers, where the 85-person cap will be enforced. Verbal public comment will be limited to those people.

The meeting will be livestreamed so it can be viewed by additional attendees, who can submit written public comment until 12 p.m.

A room down the hall from the council chambers that has previously been used as overflow will not be accessible.

Early voting will take place in the council chambers from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday, then the queue to join the public meeting will begin at about 4:30 p.m. outside the building.

Parking lot closures will be in place all day to “safely accommodate expected visitors,” and the building’s front desk will be closed “to ensure safe, secure entry and exit for voters.”

“The areas outside City Hall that are restricted to the public will be clearly marked Friday, so meeting attendees know where they can safely and legally gather,” the city said in a Thursday update.

The Hermantown City Council will consider the same six resolutions related to the data center that were on its Monday agenda. That includes a revised development agreement and a special use permit that would allow the 1.66 million-square-foot facility to move forward in a rural corner of the city.

Stop the Hermantown Data Center, a grassroots group that opposes the project, has continued to criticize the city for refusing to hold the meeting in a larger venue. It’s now calling on the mayor and City Council to denounce the “restrictive rules” for Friday’s rescheduled meeting.

“By closing the traditional overflow room and capping building capacity at just 85 people for the first time in known history, the City is actively suppressing public participation,” a Thursday statement reads. “SHDC contends this unprecedented restriction violates the spirit and intent of Minnesota’s Open Meeting Laws.”

Cole Lee Vanderlinden, 43, has been charged with one count of intentional discharge of a dangerous weapon and one count of fifth-degree drug possession in connection with the Oct. 25 incident. 

According to the criminal complaint, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received reports from a group of three hunters who said they were being shot at just before 10:30 a.m. The hunters were on public land near the 300 block of 170th Street North. 

At the scene, deputies spoke with the group, who said they had been pheasant hunting when they heard multiple bullets go directly over their heads. The group began yelling and fired a shot into the air, but the man continued shooting, according to the complaint. 

The suspect, later identified as Vanderlinden, made eye contact with the hunters and made a comment about them needing to “get over it” while shooting, charges continue. 

In total, the hunters estimated Vanderlinden fired around 20 rounds at them. They were wearing blaze orange hunting vests and hats at the time. 

During a search of Vanderlinden’s property, law enforcement found an AR-style rifle, a shotgun and magazines and ammunition, according to the criminal complaint. Two baggies containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine were also found.

Video shared this week by South Lake Minnetonka Police Department showed officers using a Taser in an effort to encourage the animal to exit the basement of the home, shortly after it had broke through a window of the residence.

The department says officers and a DNR conservation officer had deployed numerous tactics to encourage the deer to scram, including yelling, sirens, a large pole, lining up furniture to make a path for it to follow out, and even a pepperball launcher “with no success.”

A Taser was then fired at the deer, with the officer then deploying an electric charge several times before the 8-point buck decided to make its exit.

“It may have been a lil sore, but thankfully it was reunited with the great outdoors,” the department said.

Aside from trading J.J. McCarthy away a month ago, Minnesota has not yet made any moves. But general manager Nolan Teasley has been very busy exploring all kinds of possibilities, according to NFL on Prime insider James Palmer.

“The Vikings’ new general manager Nolan Teasley is looking at everything,” Palmer said on Thursday night. “He is a madman on the phones, I’m told. They’re looking at running back and looking at tight end.”

Having a “madman” on the phones sounds like a good thing. That means Teasley is doing his job and leaving no stone unturned. Whether it ultimately results in one or more trades getting across the finish line remains to be seen.

Another insider has a different view of what positions the Vikings are targeting in trade discussions. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer believes they’re looking at running back and also in both trenches.

“The Vikings have asked around on interior offensive and defensive linemen, and running backs,” Breer wrote.

Both Palmer and Breer agree that running back is a target area for the Vikings, which makes sense given their lack of efficiency and explosiveness on the ground thus far. They do have a solid backfield duo now that Jordan Mason is healthy, but Aaron Jones’ health is at least some degree of a question mark moving forward.

Obviously, it would be very exciting if the Vikings were to land Jonathan Taylor or Saquon Barkley. But Tom Pelissero expressed skepticism over the likelihood of such a blockbuster RB addition earlier this week, and Breer thinks Taylor is likely to stay in Indianapolis.

“Less likely is Jonathan Taylor getting moved,” Breer wrote. “My understanding is that Indy would need a significant haul to part with the face of its franchise, who signed a three-year extension earlier this year and is perhaps the only real marketable star left on the roster.”

Perhaps someone like Tony Pollard is a more realistic target. The Vikings could also potentially use an upgrade on the interior of the offensive line, another body at defensive tackle, or a blocking tight end to replace the injured Josh Oliver.

At this point, it seems unlikely that anything will happen prior to Sunday’s game against the Lions, which should serve as a good evaluation opportunity for Teasley and the Vikings heading into the final full week before the deadline.

Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia, both of Waller, Texas, were sentenced to 180 months and 186 months in federal prison respectively after they kidnapped a family at gunpoint at their home in Grant, Minnesota, last September.

According to court documents, the armed Garcia brothers accosted a man while he was taking out the trash at his home in the St. Paul suburb of Grant at around 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 19, 2025. 

They forced him into his garage and bound his hands with zip ties, before bringing him into the house and waking up his wife and adult son, who were also bound with zip ties and forced to lie on the floor.

Raymond Garcia threatened the man’s wife and son with an AR-15-style rifle while Isiah demanded he transfer significant sums of cryptocurrency into a crypto wallet, making frequent phone calls to an “unknown third party” during the robbery.

Per the complaint, the brothers learned from this third party that the victim had additional crypto funds stored in the family’s cabin near Jacobson, about three hours north.

Raymond Garcia continued to hold the wife and son hostage with the rifle at the home as Isiah Garcia, who was armed with a shotgun, drove the man to the cabin to retrieve the remaining cryptocurrency.

In total, the brothers forced the man to transfer them more than $8 million in cryptocurrency funds.

Eventually the couple’s son was able to call 911 that afternoon, with the brothers ultimately fleeing the scene, but not before they left behind a disassembled AR-15-style rifle, ammunition, clothing, beverages and a Wendy’s receipt that helped police to identify them.

They were then arrested near Houston, Texas. 

“The Garcia brothers committed a brazen and calculated act of violence against the victim and his family. My office will continue to pursue those who use intimidation and threats to exploit victims, no matter where they flee,” said United States Attorney Daniel N. Rosen.

“Raymond and Isiah Garcia violated the sanctity of a home, abducted a victim, terrorized a family at gunpoint for hours, and disrupted an entire community in a brazen act of violence and greed,” said FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson.

Vance had been expected to be among the federal officials visiting the central Minnesota city to make an announcement about the Trump administration’s efforts to combat fraud.

But it was confirmed late Thursday that Vance will not make the journey, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota.

Instead, the fraud announcement will be made by federal officials including FBI Director Kash Patel, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, and Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson.

No reason has been given for Vance’s later cancellation, but it initially coincided with President Donald Trump canceling in-person rallies in Iowa and Kansas ahead of Tuesday’s midterm election, where Republicans face an uphill battle to hold on to the House and potentially the Senate amid record low approval ratings.

Trump was expected to hold shorter “tele-rallies” across more than a dozen states this weekend, but on Friday morning it emerged that the president had changed his mind, and will rally in Iowa and Kansas after all.

The incident began around 4:47 p.m., with police called to the 1000 block of Ross Avenue East on a report of a shooting, with officers learning that a mean was “repeatedly” hiring a gun.

“The man barricaded himself inside a residence. Saint Paul police officers, negotiators, and members of the SWAT team surrounded the residence,” St. Paul PD said in a brief release. “The man eventually exited the residence without further incident. The man has since been taken into custody.”

The shelter-in-place order was initially announced around 7:30 p.m. for anyone near the 1000 block of Ross Avenue East, with police calling it an “active police incident.” It was lifted about an hour later.

Nobody was injured in the incident. No further information has been released.
