The national finalist is Diane Yang, the executive pastry chef of Spoon and Stable and Bellecour, whose fabulous dessert concoctions have seen her named a finalist for "Outstanding Pastry Chef."

Minneapolis dominates the Best Chef: Midwest category with three out of five nominations.

In the James Beard Book Awards, The "Sioux Chef" Sean Sherman is a finalist in the "American" category for "The Sioux Chef's Indigenous Kitchen," published by University of Minnesota Press.
