Indeed on Ice

Learning to skate on a frozen lake is a rite of passage in the State of Hockey, but with temperatures this weekend dropping to "You can't actually be serious," we suggest the friendly confines of downtown Minneapolis' Depot event center. Indeed Brewing will be showing off the latest iteration of Stir Crazy, their well-loved winter ale, with tunes courtesy ofDJ Shannon Blowtorch. Normal skate rental fees apply, but admission is free for non-skaters, so the uncoordinated among us may opt to save their tailbones and a few bucks.

Mike Dreams Pardon My Vices release show

The way Mike Dreams tells it, the budding rap career he had carved out with 2012's Millennial was almost derailed over the last year by a toxic mix of mental heath and self-medication. The scars are all over his meditative new LP, Pardon My Vices. The south Minneapolis emcee's flow is nimble and assured, whether he's thoughtfully picking apart the thorns of depression or cleverly retelling his origin story with the help of Muja Messiah. Plus, we've got skin in this game, as Mr. Peter Parker is set to host Dreams' 7th Street Entry release show and Go 96.3 DJ Jordan (aka tornadojally) contributed a beat to Vices.

Solid State Records Grand Opening

Husband and wife team Phil and Hannah Borreson are just about ready to show off the result of two lifetime's worth of record collecting at their new Longfellow store Solid State. Specializing in new and used vinyl, cassettes and DVDs, Solid State puts a little twist on the usual mom and pop record shop format by also stocking vintage video games and arts and crafts from local makers, including Hannah. This weekend's grand opening party will feature some extra rare jazz and local hip-hop LPs.

Ladies Brunch: A Celebration of Women

Dreamed up by the folks at Greenroom Magazine, Ladies Brunch is intended to be a meeting of the minds for femme-identified people, sharing great food and conversation to enrich and empower. This event will feature a panel on entrepreneurship and winter self-care from local fashion moguls Coco and Breezy as well as an interactive zine-making activity. Hosted in Greenroom's Eat Street loft space Greenhouse, Ladies Brunch will also feature a discussion with rapper and activist Princess Nokia.

Yelp's Jingle Bowl

Once you RSVP to Yelp's Jingle Bowl, you're on the hook for an awesome night of crafts, munching cookies, and more at Memory Lanes in Seward. Graze on a complimentary appetizer buffet, take a snap at the photobooth, try your hand at decorating cookies and prepping hot chocolate, or just get your roll on at the lanes. Drink and food specials will be available all night, so grab your ugliest sweater, slap on a big white beard, and come join the party this Sunday.
