Of all the fun activities going on around Super Bowl LII, this might be the biggest draw out there for Twin Cities craft beer fans.

Surly Brewing Co. – whose event brews such as Darkness always draw a crowd – is teaming up with new-to-town Minneapolis taproom HopCat for Surly Bowl LII.

On Jan. 28, Surly will bring 52 of its beers to HopCat's space on Nicollet Mall and 5th Street, offering the drinks on tap in what they're billing as the "largest variety of Surly-made beers ever assembled."

That includes:

  • 11 Surly anniversary beers (and yes that is all of them, Surly says).
  • 7 varieties of Darkness.
  • And the flagships – Furious, Hell and Xtra-Citra among them.

Doors open at 10 a.m., the the first 100 people there get a commemorative pint glass from HopCat.

Cory Just, regional sales manager with Surly, called it "not only a kick-ass idea but also a challenge" that lines up with what Surly likes to do.

And HopCat gets to host an incredibly high-profile event less than a year after it opened, taking advantage of its 80 taps and location right near the Super Bowl Live celebration and blocks away from U.S. Bank Stadium..

“We couldn’t resist the opportunity to create another Sunday the Twin Cities won’t soon forget,” said Sarah Jones, general manager for HopCat, in the announcement.
