For the first time in more than three years, pay-per-view wrestling returns to the Twin Cities on Sunday, and the WWE made a shocking announcement on Friday that has the internet on fire.

Roman Reigns, one of the stars who was due to take to the ring for the main event at TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs, is unable to compete at Target Center Sunday evening because of illness.

But the WWE set tongues wagging across the globe after announcing that his replacement is none other than WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.

He will team up with "Shield" members Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose in his first WWE match since leaving the company in 2006, taking on the 5-man team of Braun Strowman, Kane, The Miz, Cesaro and Sheamus in a "tables, ladders and chairs" match (it's exactly as it sounds).

For those of you not familiar, Angle returned to WWE as the "general manager" of WWE Raw after an 11-year break forced by injury and a painkiller addiction.

During his first stint at WWE, he became one of the company's biggest stars, headlining multiple pay-per-views, as well as Wrestlemania XIX against University of Minnesota alum Brock Lesnar.

He initially joined in 1999, three years after winning Olympic wrestling gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

His amateur wrestling background helped him become arguably the best technician and one of the most entertaining performers to ever enter a pro-wrestling ring.

He's now 48 years old, but was still wrestling for rival production TNA just a few years ago and has stayed in great shape.

Another big replacement announced

There's a double treat in store for Minnesota wrestling fans because Reigns isn't the only casualty for Sunday, Bray Wyatt is also unable to perform after contracting viral meningitis.

His replacement is AJ Styles, another fan favorite and acclaimed pro-wrestler who is typically found on WWE Smackdown, but is filling in at the last minute to create a mouthwatering matchup with Finn Balor on the TLC undercard.

Kurt Angle was trending worldwide on Twitter after the announcement was made.
