Alabama Shakes to play at Prince's Paisley Park Monday

Fresh off their rousing performance at the new Hall's Island riverfront venue in Minneapolis Saturday night, the Alabama Shakes are playing another show in the Twin Cities.

According to a tweet sent out by the blues rock band, they'll play Monday night at Paisley Park, Prince's studio in Chanhassen.

Before the details were announced Sunday there was a tad bit of mystery surrounding the additional show, which was stirred up by Prince himself.

Alabama Shakes are an up-and-coming band, having just released their second album and performing a few months ago on Saturday Night Live.

As MPR's The Current blog notes, the band has obviously attracted Prince's attention. And it asks, perhaps only half jokingly, whether that has something to do with the earrings that lead singer Brittany Howard was wearing on SNL? They were likenesses of Prince's face.

Whatever the reason, the Alabama Shakes got the invitation from Prince to perform at his place Monday night. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show is expected to start at 9 p.m. Tickets are $35 at the door.

It's not clear whether Prince will perform with the band, but it's probably a good bet.

Prince has hosted several last-minute performances at Paisley Park over the past few months, and recently put on a show in Baltimore.

Here's video of Alabama Shakes performing "Don't Wanna Fight" on SNL in March.
