American Idol: 5 singers from Minnesota get tickets to Hollywood

It's been a long wait for Minnesota fans of "American Idol" to see the local auditions that determined which contestants will move on to Hollywood.

The episode that was filmed on September 24 at the Minneapolis Convention Center aired Wednesday night on Fox, and the celebrity judges – Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. – gave five Minnesotans their "golden tickets" to the next round of competition in California, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

So here they are:

Shannon Berthiaume, 17, of St. Paul, who sang "House of the Rising Sun."

Cindy Jo Scholer, 24, of North Branch, who sang "Crazy" by Patsy Cline.

(After Scholer was finished with her audition, Connick joked: "She killed a bear last weekend -- a bear. Like I'm going to say, 'No.' ")

Mark Andrew, 29, of Minneapolis, who sang two songs, including one from the Disney movie "The Jungle Book."

Andrew, 29, was also a contestant on NBC’s “The Voice” in 2013, but was eliminated in one of the early rounds. FOX9 did a profile of Andrew.

Gabrielle Noe'l, 23, of Minneapolis, and Courtney Guns, 24, of Bemidji. Both of them were included in this montage:

The judges also gave Golden Tickets to 16-year-old Hannah Mrozak of Richfield, Wis., and Zachary Johnson, 20, from Fargo.

At the end of Johnson's audition, Urban invited him to sing on stage at an upcoming concert in Sioux Falls, S.D.

So two weeks later Urban came through on his promise, and the two of them sang "Friends in Low Places." Here's a video of that performance, posted to YouTube by Zach's father.

What wasn't so great were the lukewarm reviews from "Idol" watchers, several of whom were unimpressed by the talent on display at the Minneapolis auditions. Check them out if you like.
