There's another casualty of the warm weather.

The Little Hole on Big Lake ice fishing tournament scheduled for Saturday is canceled, the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday.

Ice conditions on lakes in the county are deteriorating, and with the potential for record-breaking temperatures later this week, the sheriff's office says the ice will continue to weaken, "causing concern for safety."

So they canceled the tournament's permit.

Craig Johnson, who helps organize the tournament, told GoMN when this happens they'd normally try to reschedule the fishing contest to the next weekend, but the weather isn't going to cooperate so anglers will have to wait until next year.

Johnson did say from noon to 3 p.m. they'll be holding an event at the Lake Side Park landing, where there will be free hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee, as well as games, prize giveaways and a cash raffle drawing.

Officials in other counties have issued vehicle restrictions on area lakes because ice across much of Minnesota isn't safe right now, including the upcoming Eelpout Festival.

Will it hit 60 this weekend?

The streak of above-normal temperatures continues, and the National Weather Service says record highs "will certainly be in jeopardy" later this week and into the weekend thanks to all the sunshine in the forecast.

Temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 50s and lower 60s across southern Minnesota by Friday – likely the warmest day of the week. This weekend it'll still be warm, with temps in the 50s.

It'll be slightly cooler in the Northland, with temperatures in the mid- to upper-40s.

Here's a look at the high temperatures expected Friday across the state:
