Up-and-coming singer Judith Hill is taking top billing at Paisley Park Saturday night, performing at Prince's studio in Chanhassen just a day after releasing her debut solo album "Back in Time."

Prince announced the performance through Twitter. The show begins at 10 p.m. and has a $10 cover charge.

Prince has been supporting Hill in her efforts to launch a solo career after her years singing backup for the likes of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Elton John. Hill was also featured on NBC’s singing competition show “The Voice."

Prince reportedly learned about Hill when he saw a video clip of her being interviewed on a European TV show and she mentioned that she’d like to work with him.

The two of them began collaborating earlier this year, whenPrince invited Hill to Paisley Park. They worked on the album together and he produced it. It was actually released in March online, in a free giveaway on Live Nation’s e-mail list, MPR's The Current blog notes. "Back in Time" came out Friday through more traditional sources, including iTunes.

The free online release had caused some legal wrangling between Prince and Jolene Cherry, the owner of Hill's former label. Cherry filed a complaint against Prince in March in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

It alleged that Prince pursued Hill, despite her exclusive recording contract with Sony via The Cherry Project, and then damaged prospects for the album by releasing it for free online. The lawsuit has been resolved, Hill told BringMeTheNews.

Working with Prince

So what has it been like for Hill to work with Prince? She told Billboard Prince was very "welcoming," and constantly pushed her to strive for excellence.

"He challenges me to be my best. I like that challenge, because with him, it’s do-or-die on that stage," she said.

Here's a video Hill posted on YouTube, "Behind the Scenes at Paisley Park."
