Atmosphere will play the Palace Theatre's grand opening party

The Palace's grand opening is set.

Rhymesayers rap legends Atmosphere will headline the opening night at St. Paul's newly renovated Palace Theatre.

The Palace's grand opening party has been set for Friday, March 10, and Atmosphere billing it as their Welcome to Minnesota 2017 show, in a nod to their long-running annual package tour series of the same name. While support acts have yet to be announced, past Welcome to Minnesota shows have always featured a deep roster of Rhymesayers-affiliated local acts.

First Avenue will splitting booking duties for the Palace with Chicago's Jam Productions, but the grand opening show has the Minneapolis nightclub's fingerprints all over it. First Avenue General Manger Nate Kranz shared his enthusiasm for the show in a statement this morning.

“We have such a history with Atmosphere and the Rhymesayers family, it felt like the best way to kick-off a very exciting year in downtown St. Paul,” Kranz said.

The grand opening show will be general admission, with the $25 tickets going on sale January 19 at 11 a.m., but some fans will get access to a special presale starting Tuesday.

The "Welcome to Minnesota" showcase is the third show announced for the Palace, joining indie-pop songwriter Regina Spektor (March 26) and electronic-leaning British duo The xx (April 28). The venue also announced a second grand opening show featuring veteran folk-rockers The Jayhawks and local country outfit The Cactus Blossoms on March 11, and a third one with Phantogram on March 12.
