Bad news, college students: Brothers has closed in St. Cloud

It'll be replaced by something a little more upmarket.

What's happening?

Brothers Bar & Grill has closed in downtown St. Cloud, with the bar on 5th Avenue South shutting its doors for the final time on Wednesday.

The Midwest chain no longer lists the St. Cloud bar on its locations page, leaving its bar on 1st Avenue in Minneapolis its only remaining venue in Minnesota.

The bar was a popular haunts for St. Cloud college students, but the restaurant replacing it is expected to be a little out of their price range...

What do you mean?

The building's owner, Inventure Properties, has been speaking to the media about its plans for its replacement.

CEO Doug Boser told the St. Cloud Times that they'd been in talks with Brothers for six months but ultimately decided against renewing the lease as they want to play their part in elevating the food scene in St. Cloud.

"There are enough bars that are vying for the student population," he added, saying he wants a restaurant that brings "grown-up food and cocktails" to the location.

They're hoping to have a new tenant confirmed in the next few weeks and the space filled by late summer.

He told WJON the bar's historic space will undergo a major, but "cautious" remodel that keeps its old vibrancy but offers a "new customer experience."

They're bringing in a team from the Twin Cities to accomplish this, he added, saying they'll be charged with "amping up what the food scene looks like in St. Cloud."
