Beloved ND actor Josh Duhamel splitting up with wife Fergie

Twitter is freaking out over the breakup, too.

Actor Josh Duhamel, favorite North Dakota son and part-time Minnesota resident, is separating from his wife of eight years, former Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie.

The celebrity couple made the announcement Thursday via a statement to People.

“With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year,” they told the magazine. "To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public."

The two have a son, 4-year-old Axl Jack.

The breakup is trending on social media, and a lot of folks on Twitter are taking the news pretty hard:

There's no word yet on what, exactly, lead to the split, or whether legal divorce is in the couple's future.

Though GoMN doesn't normally engage in speculation (especially where celebrity breakups are concerned), it might be worth noting a June interview where Duhamel seemed to complain that Fergie refused to visit his "rustic" Minnesota cabin (you can watch that video right here).

Not that such a thing should be grounds for separation, but who doesn't love rustic Minnesota cabins? Just sayin'.

Duhamel hails from Minot, North Dakota, but he's a huge Minnesota sports fan, and it's not unusual for him to stop and take selfies with his fans in the Detroit Lakes area.
