The votes are in – Grand Marais is the "Best Midwestern Small Town."
The northern Minnesota city was up against 20 other Midwestern towns with populations under 10,000 – including Lanesboro, Minnesota – for the USA Today's 10Best title.
And after four weeks of online voting, Grand Marais finished No. 1. Lanesboro took the No. 3 spot.
The poll described Grand Marais as “one of the nation’s best art colonies” and the gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
The North Shore town, which had a population of 1,351 in the 2010 Census, isn’t a stranger to “best” lists. In 2015, it was voted Budget Travel’s Coolest Small Town in America, the city’s website says.
A panel of experts picked the initial 20 nominees, with the winners decided by popular vote.
Murray has some exciting news... Grand Marais WON the "Best Midwestern Towns" contest by USA TODAY 10Best!!!!!
Congrats to the other communities that made it to the Top 10 including one of our other favorite Minnesota towns Lanesboro, Minnesota. We are certainly in great company!
