A boy from Coon Rapids whose inspirational battle against a rare genetic disorder was detailed in a "Bucket List" has died aged 7.
Jacob Olavson "gained his angel wings" surrounded by loved ones on the evening of Apr. 4, his family confirmed on their Facebook page called "Jacob's Journey."
"He was a brave fighter until his last breath," parents Kirk and Kari Olavson wrote. "He made our world better and we will miss him with every ounce of our souls."
His fight against the disease, which caused daily seizures, was chronicled on "Jacob's Journey," which saw the creation of a bucket list of achievements Jacob wanted to achieve before he died.
This resulted in a cross-country journey to see the ocean, and climb the "Rocky" steps in Philadelphia.
Closer to home, KSTP reports that Jacob enjoy a drive-in movie, a pontoon ride and an outing organized by Chad Greenway, of the Minnesota Vikings, at the Mall of America.
He celebrated his 7th birthday party in January at Cheap Skate in Coon Rapids, in which the then wheelchair-bound youngster was pushed around the rink and enjoyed cake surrounded by family and friends.
This was a month after Jacob entered hospice care, the beginning of the end of a life that was filled with tremendous hardship, but also tremendous joy and love.
You can read more about Jacob's Journey on the family's Facebook page, and on this page on Parents Dome.
