Chipotle's treat: $3 'booritos' on Halloween

Plus a chance to win free burritos (or bowls, salads, or tacos) for a year.

If Chipotle is your jam, you probably already know about the company's Halloween tradition.

But for those who don't, it's pretty simple: Wear your costume into one of the restaurants on Oct. 31, score a cheap "boorito." (Or bowl, salad, or order of tacos – whatever you prefer.)

Chipotle, which opened with a single restaurant in Denver in 1993 and now operates more than 2,300 restaurants, has been doing this since its founding.

At first they were just giving burritos away to anyone in costume, but after a few years and ridiculously long lines, the promotion switched to a discount.

This year it'll cost you $3, with the offer available from 3 p.m. to closing at all Chipotle locations, according to the official boorito deal page.

Customers and fans of all ages participate in the tradition every year.

"Boorito is a Chipotle tradition. Our customers love it, and our restaurant teams have a great time, too," Mark Crumpacker, chief marketing and development officer at Chipotle said in a news release

Your costume doesn't even have to be that great, either.

"Whether your costume is elaborate, or you just grab some aluminum foil and arrive as a burrito, it's a great way to add some delicious food to your Halloween celebration," Crumpacker said.

Not a trick

In the spirit of Halloween, Chipotle says it's sweetening the deal this year.

One lucky winner will score free burritos for a year during a new boorito sweepstakes – and you don't even have to wear a costume to enter.

That said, Chipotle's definition of "burritos for a year" actually means just one per week. The grand prize is 52 free burritos worth up to $10 each, according to the fine print

Just text "BOORITO" to 888222 by 11:59 p.m. on Halloween night. You have to be 18 years old and can only submit one entry.
