Classic hotrod event Thursday kicks off MSRA's 'Back to the Fifties' weekend

Downtown St. Paul will be going retro for a short time Thursday before a full trip back in time this weekend.

The Associated Press reports that the lunchtime crowd in Mears Park will get a peek at a dozen street rods that will be part of the Minnesota Street Rods Association's 40th annual "Back to the Fifties" weekend in St. Paul.

Thursday's event -- which will feature games and live music -- is serving as a kickoff event for "Back to the Fifties" weekend, which is Friday through Sunday.

The weekend event will feature nearly 12,000 classic cars, customs and street rods at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. All cars featured in the event are from 1964 or earlier.
