If you want to know more about making beer, you should be in the Twin Cities this weekend.

The annual Homebrew Con, which is put on by the American Homebrewers Association, will be held in Minneapolis.

Roughly 3,000 people are expected to attend this year's conference, which features interactive sessions, workshops and demonstrations for both seasoned homebrewers and those just getting started. Among those presenting is Omar Ansari, the founder of Minneapolis-based Surly Brewing Company.

There's also the final round of judging for this year's National Homebrew Competition, which recognizes the best homemade beer, mead and cider made by amateur brewers from around the world.

Homebrew Con will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center from Thursday through Saturday, with some kickoff events scheduled for Wednesday night. For a schedule, click here.

It's a pretty fitting place to hold the 39th annual National Homebrewers Conference. Last year the American Homebrewers Association named the Twin Cities one of the best places to be if you're a homebrewer.

If you're planning to attend, The Growler put together a guide of everything to do – both at the conference, and at all the beer-related events going on throughout the Twin Cities. Or follow this Twitter account for ideas.

You can register for the conference here, but know that it's not cheap – the least expensive ticket package is $225.

Get ready for special beers

Naturally, Minnesota breweries are excited for a bunch of beer lovers to come to the Twin Cities, so they're making special beers to mark the occasion.

Here are some of them:

– Fulton Brewing teamed up with Ballast Point on a kettle sour beer in honor of the convention. Read more about it here.

– Lakes and Legends Brewing made a kettle soured IPA with pink guava fruit, which was inspired by homebrewing. It's being released at 3 p.m. Thursday. More on the beer here.

– Modist Brewing partnered with Country Malt Group and Brewcraft USA to produce an award-winning homebrew recipe by Josh Hoover. It's called Red Tide Session IPA, and Modist is hosting a release party in its taproom on Thursday starting at 10 a.m.
