Mural artists who dedicated their time and money to produce artwork along the Midtown Greenway were disappointed to see their work painted over by a graffiti removal crew.
KARE 11 says although the artists had permission from building owners and the Midtown Greenway Alliance, they failed to obtain a permit from the county, which is required for all public art projects.
Work began on the mural near Blaisdell Avenue last week as part of Saturday's Greenway Glow art festival and bicycling event.
The county said in a statement that the graffiti removal crew ran out of paint mid-job and has been instructed to leave the mural as-is while officials work with the city and the artists on the next steps.
