David Bowie: Minnesota musicians react to the iconic singer's death

David Bowie has died.

The glam rock icon – admired for his songwriting talent, musical abilities and the boundary-pushing visual art he attached to it – died surrounded by his family Sunday, after an 18-month battle with cancer, his official Facebook says.

He was 69 years old.

Since the stunning announcement, the music world has mourned and reiterated its love for Bowie, who rose to global prominence in the early 1970s – not initially with his first albums, "The Man Who Sold The World" or "Hunky Dory."

But he did with their successor "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars,"his website bio notes.

Jon Bream, the Star Tribune critic, wrote about his memories interviewing Bowie over the years – including asking about why he didn't come to the Twin Cities very often.

Minnesota musicians and faces in the local music scene also shared their reaction to Bowie's death on social media. Here's a look at some of them.
