DreamWorks thaws out Frostbite Falls' Rocky & Bullwinkle

DreamWorks Animation is reviving a pair of iconic cartoon characters from the fictional town of Frostbite Falls, Minn.

Variety reports that the studio is producing an all-new animated short film featuring Rocky & Bullwinkle.

Like the original cartoon series, the new short -- titled "Rocky & Bullwinkle" -- will feature legendary actress June Foray as the voice of Rocket "Rocky" J. Squirrel.

Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, will handle the vocal duties for Bullwinkle J. Moose.

ToonZone.net says Frostbite Falls, the town from which Rocky and Bullwinkle hailed, is actually based on International Falls.

The characters of Rocky and Bullwinkle first debuted in the cartoon series "Rocky and His Friends" (also known as "The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show"), which ran from 1959 to 1964.

Subsequent releases included more cartoons and the 2000 live-action movie "The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle," starring Robert De Niro, Jason Alexander and Rene Russo.

DreamWorks' "Rocky & Bullwinkle" will be released sometime in 2014, Variety says.

In addition, the trade publication says, characters from the "Rocky & Bullwinkle" universe will be featured in DreamWorks' upcoming animated movie "Mr. Peabody and Sherman," which will be released March 17, 2014.
