Duluth native to play film icon Jayne Mansfield in new biopic

A Duluth native has been cast to play legendary actress Jayne Mansfield on the big screen, the Duluth News Tribune reports.

Hailey Heisick, who graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth, is starring in "Diamonds to Dust," an independent film drama that chronicles the turbulent life of the Hollywood star in the 1960s.

The film is based on writer-producer Frank Ferruccio's book "Diamonds to Dust: The Rise and Fall of Jayne Mansfield." Ferruccio produced, wrote and co-stars in the film.

According to the News Tribune, Ferruccio cast Heisick after auditioning about 600 actresses. Ferruccio, who has spent most of his life collecting Mansfield memorabilia, is using 34 of the film icon's actual vintage dresses for the film, as well as several of her accessories.

Heisick told the paper said it was strange that the dresses needed no alterations.

"They just zipped right up like they were my own," she told the News Tribune.

Heisick first moved to Los Angeles in 2005, and then made her professional stage debut in London before heading to New York. After starring in three Broadway productions, Heisick began concentrating on film and television. She is still based in New York.

The actress' screen roles include such projects as "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "Celebrity Ghost Stories" on television, and she also appears in upcoming James Franco-directed film "Black Dog, Red Dog."

The actress tells the News Tribune that the plan is to debut "Diamonds to Dust" at film festivals early next year, and she is hoping for a week-run of the film in Duluth theaters next summer.

Heisick also talked about the film with WDIO-TV in Duluth.

Mansfield died in a tragic car accident in June 1967 at age 34. She had five children, including Mariska Hargitay, who went to star in such projects as "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."

Ferruccio told the News Tribune that he wanted to make the film to honor Mansfield and clear up falsehoods perpetuated by the film "The Jayne Mansfield Story."

The 1980 drama starred Minnesota native Loni Anderson as Mansfield and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mansfield's second husband, bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay.

"Diamonds to Dust, Ferruccio said, will focus on the blonde bombshell's personal life. The actress had an IQ of 160, spoke five languages and was classically trained in piano and violin.
