The photo above was shared by Mike Linnemann on Twitter, showing an I-35W devoid of traffic in broad daylight on Saturday.
The interstate is closed south of downtown Minneapolis for the weekend as work got underway on the replacement of the 38th Street Bridge.
The empty interstate has taken on an eerie atmosphere that Linnemann describes is akin to a "zombie apocalypse."
It's had a pretty big knock-on effect on Twin Cities traffic, with the official diversions sending drivers via I-394, Hwy. 62 and Hwy. 100.
While adding traffic to those highways, it's always seen longer waits for those using lower capacity routes like Portland, Park and Hiawatha to get to downtown.
I-35W will open in both directions at 5 a.m. Monday. The 38th Street Bridge meanwhile is now closed for five months as it's demolished and replaced.
