Just about everything at the State Fair is going to be purple tonight – yes, even some of the cheese curds.

The fair is holding a celebration of Prince starting at 5 p.m. called Unite in Purple. There will be Prince music, a dance party, glow bracelets and buttons for the first people through the gate after the start time, a Prince-themed laser show, a Prince-themed fireworks show ... and of course, a lot of purple.

In fact, the fair hopes everyone wears purple "as a tribute to our famed native son." If you want to follow along, we'll be Snapchatting from the celebration all evening – follow us at GoNewsMN.

Cheese curds, aioli, corn cakes – all purple

Some of the food/drink vendors are going all-in on the purple theme too.

You can see a full list here, but a few examples that stood out:

  • Purple cheese curds – at Big Cheese, purple-colored (which they describe as "blueberry enhanced") cheese curds will be available.
  • Purple corn cakes – San Felipe Tacos will have the hued corn cakes for its Northwoods Tacos.
  • Purple aioli – Use it as a topping or dip for yout potato at Potato Man and Sweetie.
  • Purple non-alcoholic piña colada – This is available at Manny's Tortas.

There are also slightly more traditional things like purple sprinkles or grape floats. Some brands will also be taking part (Sleep Number is going to have purple pillowcases on its beds, for example), and a lot of places will be using purple lights.

The entertainment schedule

Some of the Crop Art artists got a jump start on honoring the music legend. But here's what the entertainment portion of Friday night's celebration looks like (or click here for the full list):

5 p.m. – Unite in Purple celebration starts. The first 5,000 people through the gates after this time will get "United in Purple" glow bracelets. The first 7,500 people will get “United in Purple” buttons.

8 p.m. – A Prince Party in the Park starts. Hosted by Prince’s personal DJ – GenerationNOW’s DJ Dudley D – it'll include music and dancing at Carousel Park. It lasts until 11:30 p.m.

9:15 p.m. – Lasertainment’s Laser Hitz show with a special Prince finale.

Later – A fireworks show (described as a "special pyrotechnic Prince tribute") will begin after the Charlie Wilson and Fantasia concludes. The fireworks will be set entirely to Prince music, and will be at the Grandstand.
