The fiancée of Minnesota native Vincent Kartheiser is getting a lot of support from fans who wanted to see the "Gilmore Girls" and "Mad Men" actress in the big screen adaptation of the E.L. James blockbuster "50 Shades of Grey," reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans have started a petition on Change.org for Alexis Bledel to take the place of Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele in the movie.

The petition is also calling for the ousting of "Pacific Rim" and "Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam as the lurid billionaire Christian Grey. Fans instead wanted "White Collar" and "Magic Mike" star Matt Bomer.

Variety reports that fans had also hoped for "Man of Steel" star Henry Cavill or "Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder as possible actors to play Christian.

The studio for "50 Shades of Grey," Focus Features, announced the casting of Johnson and Hunnam on Monday. So far, the Change petition supporting Bledel and Bomer has more than 7,900 signatures.

Naturally, social media site like Twitter were abuzz with criticism of the casting move, aimed at the likes of one of the film's producers, Dana Brunetti.

Bledel, who got engaged to Kartheiser in March, has visited Minnesota with her fiance, appearing at such functions as the Guthrie's 50th anniversary celebration in June.

Kartheiser remained tight-lipped about his engagement to Bledel in local media interviews when he was here playing Mr. Darcy in the Guthrie's production of "Pride and Prejudice."

Bledel isn't the only person caught up in the "50 Shades" squabble to have a Minnesota connection.

Dakota Johnson, the daughter of the actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, is also the granddaughter of Griffith's mom, New Ulm native Tippi Hedren.
