Former KARE reporter joins NBC News

A temporary gig has turned into a full-time job at NBC News for a former KARE 11 reporter.

KARE reports that Joe Fryer has been hired by the network after filling in on a fill-in assignment over the summer.

"His work impressed us so much, we hired him full time," NBC executives wrote in a memo to the network's news division Tuesday, Media Bistro reports.

Fryer worked for KARE for six years before leaving the station in 2010. Most recently, Fryer has been working for KING-TV, an NBC affiliate in Seattle.

Fryer will begin his new post as a West Coast correspondent Oct. 21 and will be based in Burbank, Calif.

During his temporary stint over the summer, Fryer's reports were featured on NBC’s “Today” show, the “NBC Nightly News” and MSNBC.

In August, Fryer, a Rogers, Minn., native, also appeared on KARE to talk about Hannah Anderson -- a California teen kidnapped by a family friend accused of murdering the girl's mother and brother.

Fryer certainly hasn't forgotten about his KARE family since leaving the station. Earlier Wednesday he sent out a complimentary tweet about KARE reporter Boyd Hupert.

A must-read @PioneerPress article about my friend & mentor @BoydHuppert. He just won his 9th & 10th National Murrows! http://t.co/snGasT45sI
