Former Miss Minnesota makes Sport Illustrated's Swimsuit issue

Haley Kalil was picked during the magazine's first-ever open casting call.

A familiar face will grace the pages of Sports Illustrated.

Haley Kalil was 1 of 35 women selected during the magazine's first-ever open casting call for the Swimsuit issue. She's a Victoria native who was crowned Miss Minnesota in 2014.

Over 5,000 women submitted Instagram videos (here's Kalil's) for the model search back in April, Sports Illustrated says. Kalil initially made the top 35, who then traveled to NYC for a photoshoot.

Then she moved on to the top 15, and got to walk the runway at a fashion show in Miami, debuting Sports Illustrated's new swimwear line – a line catering to all types of women.

Now the group has been whittled down to the final six, including Kalil, who will appear in the 2018 issue as model search contestants.

Friends and family surprised the finalists with the news. (Kalil's hubby, Carolina Panthers' star Matt Kalil, told her with a cake.)

Here's the video:

One of the women will win the model search contest, and get her own spread in the 2019 issue of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit as a rookie model.

"Whether I am chosen or not, I am beyond grateful for this experience and will remember it for the rest of my life," Kalil wrote in an Instagram post.

The magazine has been releasing a version of the iconic Swimsuit issue since 1964
