Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers is expanding in Minnesota, with plans to double the number of its locations in the state.
The Kansas-based chain has restaurants in Savage and Maple Grove, and this week announced that it has broken ground on a third eatery.
It'll be located in Lakeville, on Pilot Knob Road in front of Hy-Vee, where a 3,000 square-foot restaurant with a capacity of 85 guests will be built over the coming months.
And the company has set its sights on a fourth suburban location, with franchise owner Paul Bruggeman saying he is "actively looking for sites in the Brooklyn Park area."
It's part of a plan to continue the chain's growth in the Twin Cities in the next few years.
Freddy's is known for its cooked-to-order steakburgers and flat iron grill-pressed patties with a "special house seasoning," as well as its shoestring fries, Vienna Beef hot dogs and a wide array of desserts accompanied by vanilla or chocolate frozen custard.
The chain is 15 years old, having been founded in Kansas in 2002, and now totals 273 restaurants across 30 states.
