Longtime radio host Garrison Keillor's surgery went well he said, the Star Tribune reports – and just in time for his first ever full-length play to debut.

The 72-year-old wrote on Facebook he woke in recovery at Rochester's Mayo Clinic with "no fuss," and was later wheeled to his room for lunch, the paper says. Keillor did not give a timetable for his release from the hospital.

Earlier this month, Keillor announced the Sept. 27 edition of "A Prairie Home Companion" would be canceled due to an unspecified medical procedure.

In a release at the time, he said, “If you’ve noticed my upstairs bathroom light go on at 10 p.m., 10:10, 10:25, 10:40, etc., you know all you need to know. It’s no way to live, so I’ve found an excellent surgeon who will fix everything, and by October, I will be thinking more about truth and beauty and less about plumbing.”

His surgery came just two days before the premiere of his debut full-length play, "Radio Man."

The show debuts at 8 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's History Center, and runs through Oct. 26. It stars Pierce Bunting, who had a recurring spot on HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," as the host of a radio show, who "presides over a parade of singing groups, the private eye Guy Noir, the cowboys Dusty and Lefty, and the band of colorful characters of Lake Wobegon."

Last week, Keillor wrote a letter to the editor to ABC Newspapers (he used to write for the Anoka Herald), talking about sitting in the bleachers for the Anoka and Coon Rapids football game.

It read, in part:

"The band got to play the Fight Song a couple times and I joined the throng in the end zone and the game ended, Anoka up 14-6, and the kids in white bolted for the field and a huge mash-up of bodies at midfield, arms in the air, chanting the Fight Song, and then headed for the exits, a river of youth with a happy alumnus of 72 in their midst. If these folks represent what it’s like to be young now, I am all in favor of it."
