George W. Bush coming to Minnesota for Starkey foundation gala

Author:

Former President George W. Bush will be in St. Paul as part of the Starkey Hearing Foundation's annual gala.

According to a news release, the 43rd president will be honored at the July 26 "So The World May Hear Awards Gala" for his "continued dedication and commitment to changing the world."

The foundation's gala raises funds to help provide hearing aids to thousands of people in need around the world. The 2014 gala brought in $8.7 million, the foundation's website says.

The 69-year-old has done work with the Starkey Foundation. In 2013, the younger Bush went to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, to help give customized hearing devices to 222 people there. He's also been described as an ambassador for the program.

In addition to Bush, the Delta Zeta Sorority, No Limits and other humanitarians will also be honored.

Headlining the entertainment portion of the gala will be pop star Katy Perry. Matt Nathanson, 2Cellos and Jessica Sanchez are also slated to perform.
