Har Mar Superstar admits to hoax about joining Replacements

Musician and comedian Sean Tillman, aka Har Mar Superstar, apparently had at least one major music publication believing Thursday that he was joining the reunion of the Minneapolis group The Replacements on guitar, the Pioneer Press reports.

The Marshall-born Tillman, who has been recording comic R&B songs and touring under the name Har Mar Superstar with groups like Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Strokes over the past decade, sent out Tweet Thursday that got the ball rolling.

The "announcement" was picked up by Spin magazine and re-tweeted by Tillman's friend, Red Hot Chilli Peppers' bassist Flea -- later revealed to be in on the joke.

Once Spin figured out the hoax and amended its story headline to read, "Har Mar Superstar Didn't Join the Replacements as Guitarist," Tillman tweeted again.

Replacements Singer/songwriter Paul Westerberg and bassist Tommy Stinson announced earlier this month that they have agreed to headline three dates of the Riot Fest: in Toronto Aug. 24-25, in Chicago Sept. 13-15, and in Denver Sept. 21-22.

The shows will mark the first time they have performed together since July 4, 1991.
