HBO confirms 'Game of Thrones' is ending, a spinoff is possible

It's been the word on the street for a while now, but HBO confirmed it all Saturday.

"Game of Thrones" is coming to an end, and many sources are reporting season eight will be its last.

If you've been trying to avoid the rumors and still deny the show's impending end, you're not alone.

The network's new programming chief, Casey Bloys, said he wishes the Emmy-winning show could go on longer too, CNNMoney reports.

"Believe me, as the new guy, if I could get them do to more, I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do [to make] the best version of the show," Bloys said.

Exactly how many more episodes will come before you're stuck watching reruns?

We're not quite sure yet, and neither are the show's makers.

Bloys told USA Today that the producers are "still thinking about it."

We do know it's locked in for seven season seven episodes. Production had to be delayed though, so Entertainment Weekly says those shows will make their debut next summer.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the eighth season may only have six episodes, but that hasn't been set in stone yet.

If you're still in denial, there are more rumors that could hold you over for a while.

When asked about the possibility of a "Game of Thrones" spinoff show, Bloys said there have been conversations regarding that.

He told Variety that there are "no concrete plans," but they're "not opposed to it."

And Buzzfeed is either paying some extra close attention to detail or fueling conspiracies. The source reports that HBO technically didn't come out and say season eight will be the last. So maybe it's possible HBO is just messing with everyone.
