The teenager who signed a one-day contract with the Minnesota Wild has died.

Carter Casey, a 17-year-old hockey player from Breckenridge, Minnesota, died Friday, according to his obituary. He had a rare and aggressive form of muscle cancer called spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma, his YouCaring page says.

"The entire community is just dead," Carson Yaggie, Carter's friend and former teammate, told Forum News Service. "Our hearts are completely dropped. It's like there's just a space in the community that will always be empty."

Carter's wish was to be a member of the Wild for a day, and in March he signed a contract with the team with the help of Make-A-Wish Minnesota. You can watch video of his day with the team below.

Those who knew Carter said since he was diagnosed with cancer in November 2015, he's remained positive, always trying to make people smile, WDAY reported.

A funeral for Carter is scheduled for Thursday at noon at Breckenridge High School, with a visitation an hour before the service, the obituary says. There will also be a visitation on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 6 p.m., all at the high school.

Since Carter's death, people have taken to social media to share their memories and condolences.
