Heggies Pizza is creating new flavors with help from a Twin Cities chef

Heggies is getting cheffed up.

A popular Minnesota frozen pizza brand is partnering with a well-known Twin Cities restaurateurfor a new line of pizzas.

If you live here and haven't heard of Heggies Pizza, it's about time you head to your local corner bar or VFW. The beloved frozen pies have a crispy crust heavily loaded with toppings, and are best consumed cut into squares and inhaled alongside a pitcher of beer.

The Milaca-based company that started as a small, family business run out of a garage in the late 1980s has almost a cult-like fan base in Minnesota. The pizzas were originally only found in bars, and maybe that's why it seems every Minnesotan has a story about Heggies.

James Beard Award semi-finalist Doug Flicker will be giving the legendary pies a cheffy makeover, Heggies announced. Flicker is a star in the Twin Cities food scene, with several successful restaurants on his portfolio. Most recently, he closed his four-star Minneapolis restaurant, Piccolo, to open the Walker Art Center's new Esker Grove.

"Heggies and Flicker connected over their common dedication to innovation and passion for the food they create and, of course each is quite fond of the other’s craft and committed history," the release says. "It’s a union of their mutual appreciation of quality and creativity, and understanding their customers who want more."

Uh, yeah we want more Heggies. The 'za is so good, we hear it's made around the clock in the factory's break room for employees, who get to do all the taste-testing. Hey Heggies, are you hiring?

Sadly, Heggies didn't spill on what new flavors are coming. More details will be announced in the coming weeks, and the pizzas will launch later this summer/fall.
