If your jack-o'-lanterns are starting to look a little down in the dumps, it might be time to make way for other holiday decorations.
But hold up before you throw that pumpkin in the trash.
Plain or carved pumpkins are often considered yard waste or compost and shouldn't be thrown in with the rest of your garbage.
A lot of cities offer yard waste collection this time of year. If you're not sure, you might want to check with your city, county, or garbage disposal service. Otherwise you can look for a nearby compost site.
But if your pumpkin is painted or adorned with jewels, glitter, etc. – it's trash, according to the City of Minneapolis. That stuff can't be composted so it just goes in the garbage.
