Holy ship that boat is huge
The Paul R. Tregurtha is 1,013 feet long (that's more than three football fields), has enough space to carry more than 69,000 tons of material, and is the largest ship on the Great Lakes.
So seeing it glide out of the fog and into a Duluth port, pushing away the hunks of ice floating on top of Lake Superior as it heads for the Lift Bridge, is quite a sight.
That's what Duluthians were treated to this week, when Paul arrived Tuesday. YouTuber Jake Heitman posted some pretty spectacular video the next day:
You can see another video here via Dennis O'Hara, who operates the site Duluth Harbor Cam. It's now parked on the Superior side of the St. Louis River, Vessel Finder says,
O'Hara said it'll be at Midwest Energy for winter layup – that's where it'll stay during this season, getting work done until the shipping season starts again.
WBNG said the first ships began docking for winter layup in Duluth at the start of January, which is a little earlier than normal.
