Huge lines form in Twin Cities for copy of 25th 'Cities 97 Sampler'

Loads of music fans camped outside Target stores in the Twin Cities Thursday morning to be the first people to get their hands on a special double-CD release of the "Cities 97 Sampler," WCCO reports.

This year's release commemorates the 25th anniversary of the limited edition compilation. The set includes live or in-studio performances by such artists as Matchbox Twenty, Matt Nathanson, Ed Sheerhan and Fun, which can't be found anywhere else.

Among those at the Edina Target was Cities 97 morning DJ Keri Noble, whose song, "Make Me Crazy," is also featured on "Cities 97 Sampler Vol. 25."

The Minnetonka Patch reports that "a massive line" formed outside the Target at Highway 7 and County Road 101 in Minnetonka.

The store says it had about 875 copies of the "Sampler" to start with – about double the amount they had last year – and were down to about 200 copies by 8:30 a.m.

The Patch says the line outside the store was longer than it has been in the last couple of years.

Only 40,000 copies of the CD set were produced, and all proceeds go to benefit Minnesota charities. Organizers hope to raise more than $1 million from this year's release, WCCO says.

If you can find one, the "Cities 97 Sampler Vol. 25" is selling for $32.97.
