Hungry yet? Here are the new foods to try at the State Fair this year

It's that time of year again: The Minnesota State Fair announced the new foods that will be served at the fair this summer.

And there are a lot of new additions – from cowboy bites to limerick stix, there are 40 new foods and 11 new frozen treats for fairgoers to choose from.

We put together a list of some of the ones the BringMeTheNews team is most excited to try at this year's fair (for the complete list of food, click here):

Steak Apizzaiola

Spaghetti Eddie's steak apizzaiola features cuts of Italian steak, sautéed in au jus and served on a seasoned kaiser bun with caramelized onions, melted cheese and marinara sauce.

Sara’s Tipsy Pies

Sara's Tipsy Pies – one of four new food vendors at this year's fair – will serve up five varieties of handmade pies including: State Fair rhubarb blue hunny do, 2Gingers Irish apple, bapple (blueberries and apple), maple bacon apple breakfast and salted caramel apple.

Boulevard Grill will be serving up totchos this year – tater tots smothered in cheddar cheese sauce with seasoned sour cream, bacon bits and green onions. Chicken or taco-style beef is optional. This is among the new food items that are gluten-free.

Maple bacon funnel cake

Bacon lovers rejoice: There will be a bacon-flavored funnel cake at this year's fair. Funnel Cakes is serving up the maple bacon funnel cake, infused with bacon pieces, then topped with sweet maple glaze and sprinkled with – you guessed it – more bacon.

Kimchi 'n' curry poutine

The Rabbit Hole will be serving up kimchi 'n' curry poutine for a limited time during the fair (available Sept. 2-7 only). The poutine features braised pork and potatoes that are smothered with curry gravy and cheddar cheese, then topped with kimchi and a poached egg.

 Korean BBQ beef taco

Shanghaied Henri's new Korean BBQ beef taco includes marinated beef glazed with spicy soy honey, layered with kimchi, topped with crispy rice noodles and served on two flour tortillas. They're also available in a salad bowl.

Hot tail

The Rabbit Hole will be serving up a hot tail for a limited time during the fair (available Sept. 2-7 only), which is a roasted pig tail coated in a scallion ginger sauce.

Sriracha balls

Boulevard Grill will be serving Sriracha balls – breaded in panko, deep-fried and drizzled with Sriracha sauce – with two choices of filling: a blend of shredded chicken, corn, tomatoes, egg and Sriracha; or Sriracha cream cheese with corn, tomatoes and egg.

The fair, which runs from Aug. 27 through Labor Day, Sept. 7, will be offering nearly 500 different foods at 300 vendors throughout the fairgrounds.
