A makeup artist from Minnesota has walked away with $100,000 and a new car after her spectacular designs won the 8th series of SyFy show "Face Off."

The show pits prosthetic artists against each other as they come up with fantastical science fiction and horror creations before a panel of judges.

The Series 8 finale was broadcast on Tuesday, and 28-year-old St. Louis Park native Darla Edin emerged victorious.

The finalists were given the challenge of coming up with four characters who could star in a film franchise, Entertainment Weekly reports, and Edin pitched "The Spirit of Eden," creating four superheroes charged with fighting off evil spirits after Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden.

Her characters – representing the elemental spirits in the shapes of a faun, a merman, a fire spirit and a worm wrapped in a tree – were on display at Universal Studios, and managed to win both a public vote and the judges' approval.

Edin is no stranger to awards. She placed first in the 2012 LA and Toronto International Makeup Artists Trade Show, having gone into the business on a freelance basis after graduating from Vancouver Film School, according to SyFy.

The TV station says she moved back home to Minneapolis to continue her special effects career, and most recently was head of the makeup department on successful indie film "Solitude," which was featured at the 2014 Twin Cities Film Festival and won the Audience Choice Award for Best Feature.
