Milk & Honey Ciders is opening a taproom in central Minnesota

The new facility means more cider.

A new cidery and taproom will open in central Minnesota later this month.

Milk & Honey Ciders, which has been selling its hard ciders since 2014, is set to open the taproom on Aug. 25 in St. Joseph, a news release says

The cider-maker has been producing its cider in Cold Spring for the past few years, but the terrain was difficult, so they decided to move to St. Joseph to build the new cidery and taproom.

“We had been searching for a place that still represents the rural nature of cidermaking but was a bit easier for people to come,” Peter Gillitzer, a co-founder of Milk & Honey, said in a statement.

The 10-acre site in St. Joseph will include a second orchard and a 5,000-square-foot building that'll be used for production and the taproom, which includes a patio.

“Our new cidery will allow us to offer even more cider, apple, and cultural education and to celebrate this historic beverage,” Gillitzer said.

People will be able to see the apples growing, then go inside the taproom and see how the cider is made. They'll also be able to sample Milk & Honey's ciders (there will be eight on tap) and buy packaged drinks to take home.

This fall, people will be able to buy fresh apples and unfermented juice, and Milk & Honey says apple spirits and cocktails are also in the works.

The taproom, located at 11738 County Road 51 in St. Joseph, will be open Thursday through Sunday.

The hours are: Thursday from 3-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
