The Minneapolis Institute of Art just had its busiest year ever

Mia says it's looking forward to another exciting year.

A Minnesota art museum is celebrating its busiest year ever.

The Minneapolis Institute of Art (the Mia) posted to Facebook and Twitter Friday that 891,206 people visited this fiscal year. That's the highest attendance in the museum's history.

Among those visitors was the New York Times, which spent 36 hours in Minneapolis last summer and put it on their list of places to visit.

Over the past year, the museum has featured a variety of exhibitions, including a very popular one on Martin Luther.

Mia's Martin Luther exhibit sold out, and was even extended a day to give more people a chance to see it. At the time, the Star Tribune reported it was on track to be one of the museum’s biggest shows ever. Mia workers told the paper they expected more than 100,000 visitors altogether for that show.

Other exhibitions from the past year include Seeing Nature, which was all about landscapes, Resistance, Protest, Resilience, which captured the history of protests, plus this Guillermo del Toro monsters collection.

You can see all the past, current and future exhibitions here.

Another exciting year

With this new record, Mia says it's looking forward to another exciting year "full of exhibitions, events, programs, family activities, and more."

This fall, the art institute will be bringing a bunch of paintings to America for the first time ever. It's for the exhibition Eyewitness Views, which captures moments and historical events from the 1700s.
