Minnesota rocker Kat Perkins brought the crowd and the judges to their feet after her surprising hard rock cover of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" on "The Voice" Top 8 live show Monday night.
The hit electronic pop song isn't Perkins' usual style. But before the show, Perkins said she wanted to have a "breakout moment" by giving viewers a pop song with a "Kat spin," according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. And she did just that.
Her powerful vocal performance had the look and feel of a hard rock concert, complete with flames shooting from the stage, flashing strobes and spinning laser lights.
Her coach, Adam Levine, called it "unbelievable."
"You just did a heavy-metal rendition of a Daft Punk funk tune in the coolest way," Levine said, according to the Pioneer Press. "There's nothing that wasn't amazing about that."
Levine, whose new platinum blonde-dyed hair was the talk of social media, also wondered how Perkins could have been in the bottom three performers last week. She had to win a "sing-off" to advance to this round.
Perkins, 33, is a North Dakota native who now lives in Minneapolis and works as a nanny.
Perkins will learn if she moves to the top five during the live results show on Tuesday at 7 p.m. on NBC.
