Minnesota 9-year-old dines with First Lady Michelle Obama
Nine-year-old Kaitlyn Kirchner, from the south-central Minnesota town of Madelia, joined some of the nation's other youngest chefs in a dinner with First Lady Michelle Obama, the Mankato Free Press reports.
The "Kids' State Dinner" on Tuesday was the culmination of the First Lady's Healthy Lunchtime Challenge in which students from around the nation compete to create the tastiest healthy meals.
Kaitlyn's recipe features a variety of veggies from her own garden: carrots, broccoli, yellow summer squash, sugar snap peas, red bell peppers, plus quinoa, the Free Press reports.
Many of the 57 winning recipes were sampled at the White House event.
The White House has several videos. Here's the First Lady and President Obama at the event.
