Minnesota musician Messersmith to appear on 'Late Show with David Letterman'

Minnesota indie pop musician Jeremy Messersmith is scheduled to appear on "The Late Show with David Letterman" on CBS Wednesday night – as long as the other show's guests finish on time.

The Star Tribune says Messersmith will follow TV host Kathy Griffin and documentary filmmaker Ken Burns on the show, and both "have a tendency to talk and talk and talk" – meaning the musician could conceivably get bumped from the lineup.

If the show does go on for Messersmith, he will follow in the footsteps of Minnesota's Trampled by Turtles. The indie folk band from Duluth played "Letterman" last month, and made its national television debut on Letterman's show in 2012.

The Plainsman of Huron, South Dakota, notes that Huron native Jesse Peterson will be part of Messersmith's band on Wednesday night's appearance.

Peterson, who plays violin, attended St. Cloud State University and teaches band and orchestra in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, the Plainsman says. He also plays in the string group The Laurels Quartet and backs up other Twin Cities bands.

Messersmith's longtime musical partner, Andy Thompson, is an Edina native. He's also done work with Taylor Swift, and was nominated for a Grammy earlier this year for his work on Swift's RED album, MinnPost notes.
