The Minnesota State Fair on Wednesday unveiled its official poster for this year's event, an agrarian-themed image inspired by vintage posters, its artist said.
Artist Marie Olofsdotter was born and raised in Sweden, but she now lives in Minneapolis, her bio says. She said she travels quite a bit in Minnesota, "so I'm familiar with the land," the Pioneer Press reports. She calls her work, which features a woman with a basket overflowing with grain and vegetables, "juicy and inspired."
Olofsdotter was selected from almost 30 applicants to paint this year's commemorative artwork, the Pioneer Press reports.
The artist was inspired by State Fair posters from the late 1800s that often depicted women in agriculture, MPR reports.
Here's more info about the work and the artist.
Olofsdotter’s painting will be displayed at the Fine Arts Center during the fair, Aug. 22 through Labor Day, Sept. 2.
