Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the licorice flavor, but I can understand why many are not.
That's why the results of Candystore.com's latest survey on favorite jelly bean flavor by state prompted a double take.
Minnesota's favorite is black licorice.
This is the fennel-like flavor that has prompted multiple scientific studies to find out just why some people hate it so darn much.
So for it to be Minnesota's favorite jelly bean flavor? Wow.
The only explanation can be that those who like licorice really, really like it, so much so they like it more than the dozens of other jelly bean flavors out there.
This love for licorice is seen elsewhere too – it's the favorite flavor in no fewer than seven states, including our neighbors in North Dakota.
It's the 2nd most popular flavor nationally – behind only buttered popcorn.
The least favorite flavors in the nation are apparently maple, vanilla, cream soda, raspberry and pomegranate ... flavors which I happen to all like.
Hmm ... maybe I've got a sugar addiction.
